How to Jailbreak iPod Touch 2.0 using WinPwn
Last Saturday, I’ve successfully performed a jailbreak on my iPod Touch 2.0.1. So I’m here to share and write about how I did it. First, let me talk about the new features on the new Firmware. The new firmware lets you install applications from the iTunes store to your iPod Touch. There are pretty much good free apps in iTunes so in my own opinion, I think it’s worth installing the latest firmware.
So how to do it? I’m not gonna rewrite the guide that I followed so I’m just gonna redirect you to it. But I’m here to give you some tips though, because some parts of the guide aren’t too clear. So let’s start.
You can follow the steps of this nice detailed guide. You must follow each step carefully. Here are some of the additional stuff that I did. They are numbered according to the guide/link I gave you.
On step number 9 from the guide titled 1st tab, Applications: The screenshot in this step is not updated. The latest WinPwn version has 3 checkboxes on the first tab, you must check them all, since you are on iPod Touch.
The rest of the steps are well clear enough for you guys to follow. If you are afraid that you might brick your iPod, don’t be. There have been no reports of bricked iPod yet.
To those having problems on how to get to DFU mode, here are the steps I did to have a successful DFU mode. You will need a speaker or headset for this one. And you must not be deaf.
- Connect your iPod Touch to a USB cable.
- Press and hold the home and power buttons until you hear the disconnect sound. When you hear the sound, release the power button and keep holding the home button.
- Do not release the home button yet until you hear another sound. That’s the time you release the home button.
- The screen on the iPod should be black. If you see a graphic on the iPod Touch telling you to connect to iTunes then you are on restore mode and not on DFU mode.
I hope the instructions are crystal clear for you guys. If you’ve got any questions or you need help, just leave your comment below.

@yamum and @bob: You guys are such total losers. He didn’t even write the guide. He just posted a link to it. You can never “break” an iPod by jailbreaking it. It can easily be restored. If you broke yours that’s because you are too dumb to even follow a simple instruction.

Good to hear about that darwin v. But that’s not the end of it. 2.0.1 is not the very stable firmware for iPod Touch so I think you should update it to 2.1.
I’ll give you a hint on how to do it. Just plug you iPod onto your computer and using iTunes 8(yes upgrade your iTunes) update your iPod into the official 2.1 firmware. The update is free dude so don’t worry about it. After you’ve updated it, you can then jailbreak your iPod again.
I’m gonna write a brief post on how to Jailbreak your iPod Touch 2.1 in a while.

Almost 6 hours after my last post today, I finally jailbroke my iTouch at 2.0.1. I was stuck for almost all the process time solving the 1604 error which appeared. But anyways, the tuts you gave is really helpful. Now my boot logo rocks!!!

After the jailbreaking under 2.0.1, will the 3rd party apps installed in 1.1.4 still be there? If ever they’re not, how will I put 3rd party apps, will it still be thru wi-fi? I was too busy with something so its just this time that I’ll be doing this one. It’s really been long due.
