How to Install 1.50 Kernel Add-on for 3.90 M33 Custom Firmware
A Custom Firmware without the 1.50 Kernel add-on is only half a Custom Firmware. Without the 1.50 Kernel on your PSP, the whole purpose of the custom firmware is defeated. 1.50 Kernel is all about the homebrew apps. I have already installed the 1.50 kernel add-on on my PSP and it’s awesome. I could still use the remote control, the WiFi sniffer and a lot more homebrew applications. So how do you install it? It’s quite easy.
The Requirements
- A Phat PSP with 3.90 M33 custom Firmware installed. This one does not work on a PSP slim but don’t fret, because there is one coming.
- A USB Cable. This is used as a connectivity tool between the PSP and the computer.
The Installation Guide
- Download the 3.90 M33 Addon from Dark Alex’s website.
- Unzip and you will find the 150k_addon folder. Copy the 150k_addon folder from your PC to PSP in this directory: PSP/GAME/
- Download the 1.50 Firmware and place it into the root directory of your PSP.
- Disconnect your USB cable and then on the XMB, go to GAME>Memory Stick then run the 1.50 Kernel Add on update.
- Follow the onscreen instructions and wait. The PSP will restart automatically after the update has been installed.
- Congratulations. Go and get your homebrew applicatons now.

@darwin v: really? dats great! although im still in 3.80 m33-5.. in my opinion, its more stable (as of now), when some more updates are made for 3.90 m33, i will surely upgrade..
@stylemo: how’s your psp? did you changed your lcd? i saw some psp parts in sm sucat, but i think its quite costly.
@bosschief: yeah! its really mahal.. but i advice to really buy the real thing, i bought a class a 2gb for my p990i before, after a month it get corrupted. so, buy the original.

So I found this post after leaving a noob reply on one of your post… I’m at CFW 3.71 M33-3 on my other Phat PSP. Can I and do I need to install the 1.50 Kernel Addon to my CFW 3.71 M33-3 so that I can install the 8GB MemStick Patch to use my 8GB Sandisk MemStick?
Peace out Mo! =)

I HAV A PSP W/T CFW 3.90 M33-3
I FOLLWED THE INSTRUCTIONS BUT MY PSP SAYS “INCORRECT OR INEXISTANT 150.PBP AT ROOT”
ANY IDEAS??
May 3rd, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Thanks a lot I’ve gone from 3.71 m33 to 3.90 m33 up to here. all thanks to you.
May 5th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Hey David:
Here’s your problem:
the 150.PBP file in your root folder is not named correctly because when you changed its extention it actually became 150.PBP.PBP << so all you have to do is backspace one of those .PBP and then you will have a 150.PBP file and it will work
Cheers!

Heyy anyone, can remotejoy and usbhostfs cause brickage or corrupt id storage keys? Coz i use it to play iso/cso games on my HD via USB.
May 9th, 2008 at 6:56 am
i get an error about halfway through it. it says ” flashing flash0/msstor.prx (20512)… error” or something like that? can somebody help?
May 9th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
@Matt: You sure you followed the instructions correctly? Errors in flashing might cause your PSP to brick. Be careful man and don’t get too excited. It’s better to take things slow but sure than fast and regretful.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:26 am
hey does this work on 3.90m33-3 or its just for 3.90m33?
May 14th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
IT’S WORKING!!! I’m teasing my sister right now. She’s watching TV and I keep shutting it down. IT’S SUPER FUNNY!!! You should all try it. First it didn’t work. I went to recovery mode, enabled kernel 1.50, put the files in the right place and stuff. DIDN’T WORK. Then i installed the 1.50 kernel addon and now it’s working. YAY!!!
May 15th, 2008 at 11:20 am
@nick
r u refering to the universal remote for the psp? i’ve tried that before and it doesn’t seem to work for me… how u do it man?
May 29th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
I keep getting the message ‘Cannot decrypt updater prx’.
Do I have the 1.50PBP file in the wrong location? Currently in the root of the memory stick?
Got 3.90M33.
Any help greatly appreciated.
May 30th, 2008 at 1:09 am
@LTJ:
try to redownload a new copy of the kernel add-on.
if the problem persists…try putting the kernel add-on in the GAME150 folder…
May 30th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
@dcv1979:
thanks for the pointers. Seemed to be an issue with the 150.PBP file. Downloaded from an alternate source and it worked fine.
May 30th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
@LTJ:
