PSP Custom Firmware 3.90 M33 is out together with the 1.50 Kernel Add-on
Sony has just released a few days ago, the latest official firmware for the PSP. It’s 3.90 and I think it mostly benefits the PSP Slim users. Phat PSP users like me won’t really benefit anything from it. The new firmware has the Skype application now. Skype enables you to call using your computer to any phone around the world. Now you can call your friends from PSP to computer or PSP to PSP or PSP to phone via Skype. But you would need to buy the PSP mic and headset though. But that’s not great news. The great news is Dark Alex has done it again. You can go to his website now and download the new 3.90 M33 custom firmware and install it on your PSP.
But wait, there’s more! Dark Alex has also released the 1.50 Kernel for the 3.90 M33. You can grab it from his website too. If you have problems installing the latest custom firmware, do not worry because I will write a guide as soon as i have installed the latest update on my PSP.
I also heard that you can install 1.50 kernel on the slim now. Don’t get too excited because I’ll be writing a guide on that too.

@Pongster: Thanks! I’ll be getting a PSP Slim for myself soon. My Phat PSP’s LCD is still broken and I still can’t buy a new LCD right now.
hehehe.. i’m working on the update now.. need to talk to some IT guys since it’s not allowed.. usb is disabled here in my station.. i have to hop from one station to another.. i dont want to try the network update feature of 3.80 m33-5.. i’ve read it bricked the psps of those who used it.. hehehe! i will go through the old and safer way..

if a psp phat with a 3.80 M33-5 CFW and 1.5 kernel is already installed, if i update to 3.90 M33 CFW, should I reinstall the 1.5 kernel with the new guide or there’s no need to it?
@De Facto: yes. You’ll have to reinstall a fresh 1.5 kernel on the 3.90 custom firmware.
you’ll be getting a slim psp does that mean you’ll gonna stop writing updates steps on a fat one?

my silver slim is at 3.80 m33-5.
While installing the 3.90 CFW…I bypassed the battery option. When the update started and reached 25 %…the battery died…So my PSP is bricked. Any suggestions how to fix it?

@Shady: You should have plugged in your PSP to an AC Adapter. That’s what you get for bein too excited. Fix it with Pandora’s battery.

i just wanna ask… what if i wanted to update my firmware from 3.71 M33-2 to 3.90…. do i have to have the original files in my flash0.. will the updating needs the original files of flash0? coz’ i kinda deleted some files there like gameboot.pmf, system_plugin.rco etc, although my psp is still running fine… i was juzt wonderin’ sorry really new to this?_?
I have updated my PSP to 3.90 M33-2 but I cannot find the Skype option which I believe is supposed to be there. Can anyone help me?

I recently bought a psp slim which came with 3.80 Official firmware. My friend in excitement update the firmware to 3.90. Now I’m new to this m-33 stuff and i don’t want to shell a lot on umds. Please let me know how i can play games d/l off the internet and psx eboots??

The Skype is under the last menu in the XMB that is under NETWORK.Hope dis helps.;)

@looneytunez2 and @em2x: If you are using custom firmware, change your region settings on the recovery mode to America. It’s only available on the Slim.
@rhythm07: I think you don’t need to but to be safe just revert your flash files back please.
