How to Capture Screenshots On Your PSP
I know a lot of you PSP fanboys out there are still wondering how I manage to get those cool screenshots from my PSP. well you can stop wondering now because after this post, you too will be capturing screenshots from your PSP just by pressing the NOTE button. Sounds simple right?
Requirements:
- A Fat or Slim PSP installed with 3.71 M33 or higher custom firmware. This means it will also work with 3.80 M33 custom firmwares.
- A USB Cable to enable connection between your computer and your PSP.
Instructions:
- Download the screencapture pack I’ve prepared to anywhere on your computer.
- Unzip the file you’ve downloaded.
- Connect your PSP to your PC using a USB Cable. Check if you have already the seplugins folder on the root of your memory stick. If you don’t have it yet then proceed to step 4. If you do already have it then proceed to step 5.
- Do this only if you don’t have the seplugins folder yet. Copy the seplugins folder from your computer to the root of your memory stick.
- If you did step 4 then skip this step. You only have to follow this step if you already have an existing seplugins folder. Copy screenshotbmp.prx from the seplugins on your computer to the seplugins folder on the root of your memory stick. Now go to the seplugins on your memory stick. If you have vsh.txt already present, you have to open the file and edit it. Open it in Notepad or any text editor and add these code in a new line: ms0:/seplugins/screenshotbmp.prx
Check if you also have pops.txt and game.txt present on your seplugins folder in your memory stick. If you have it then do the same routine, edit it and paste that line of code in a new line. Otherwise you can just grab the game.txt and pops.txt from the file you’ve downloaded. - Disconnect your PSP from your computer. Now open the recovery menu. How? Turn off your PSP then turn it on again while pressing the R button. On your recovery menu, go to Plugins and enable all the screenshotbmp.prx plugins. Exit the recovery menu.
- Try it on your XMB. Press the note button. You will know the screenshot plugin is working when an inverse color of your screen will sweep from the bottom to the top. The screenshot will be saved on your PICTURES folder on your memory stick and you can also view it by going to Photo > memory stick on your PSP.
If you have any questions or reactions about this guide, you can use the comment form below. The screenshot plugin was programmed by TyRaNID and ported by Weltall to the M33 custom firmwares.

Where can I find these seplugins?
Is this the folder contained in the 3.71 m33-4 pack?
The seplugin in there contains a popsloader folder & popsloader.prx

@darwin v.: It works on the PSP Phat if you have 3.71 M33 or higher. Have you activated it inside the recovery menu?

thanks for this. i read in forums that some others have theirs working but no sweeping game-pausing happens, how do i configure mine to behave like that? i certainly don’t want to still have that sweeping pause effect when i take a screenshot during adhoc play. i got a 3.80 M33-5 on a slim.

i wasn’t able to make it work T__T
i re-checked every step, did them very carefully, but it didn’t work on mine. have a 3.80 firmware. please help. O_o
thanks a lot!
May 9th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
@aya: You must have a custom firmware. Custom Firmwares are firmwares with M33 ending on them. Example 3.80 M33 is not the same as 3.80 only.
May 9th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
oh.. i see. thank you so much! I’m new to these stuffs. i’ll look into custom firmwares for that. ^___^
June 9th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

nice one! i’ve been looking for something like this for a long time. thanks bro!
July 16th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Am I missing something? I thought this was supposed to d-load a zip file? I download the link for the screen capture pack, and I get a rar file. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
July 16th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
@John: I didn’t mention anything about it being a ZIP file. Unzip means to unpack so it doesn’t necessarily mean that it has to be a zip file.

Hi my name is jhomari im having trouble on my psp and the R button on it every time I shut my psp down and I turn it on with me holding the R button, all it does is resets itself and says SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT what can i do to go to the menu? pleaz help
August 1st, 2008 at 10:22 am
@Jhomari: You sure, you’re using custom firmware? If not, then surely that is the reason why. That little trick don’t work in PSPs with official firmware.
August 6th, 2008 at 11:07 am
Fantastic! it worked!!! thank so much, I was looking for something like this for a long time now. also is there a way to gather movie screen captures from a psp game as well?
