How to Update to 3.80 M33-4 Custom Firmware
It seems that Dark Alex has been working overtime again. The latest update for the 3.80 M33 custom firmware is now out. And again for noobs out there who’s looking for an easy guide on installing these updates, this is the right place.
There’s actually 2 different ways on how to update your 3.80 M33 custom firmware to 3.80 M33-4. The first one is doing it manually by downloading the update file and copying it to your PSP. And the other one is the easier way – thru the PSP’s native Network Update. Now that is very cool. So hold on to your seats as I give you the details on how to install the 3.80 M33-4 update.
The Requirements
- You must have 3.80 M33 Custom Firmware already installed on your PSP. If you don’t have it yet, follow my guide here.
- A sufficient battery so your PSP won’t turn off in the middle of the update.
- A Good Wifi Connection
- A USB Cable (optional)
If you have a WiFi connection, follow the steps below.
- On your XMB Menu, just go to Settings > Network Update then choose your connection. The PSP will then detect if you have the latest custom firmware. If you don’t have it yet, your PSP will automatically download the update file.
- After the update has been downloaded, you will be asked to press X or O to begin the update. Press the corresponding button, the screen will turn black and the updated files will be flashed.
- After the flashing, your PSP will restart by itself. Enjoy!
If you don’t have WiFi connections, then you should follow the steps below.
- Download the 3.80 M33-4 update.
- Extract the contents of the file you’ve downloaded anywhere you want on your computer.
- connect your PSP to your computer using the USB cable. Copy the UPDATE folder to your PSP in this directory: ms0:/PSP/GAME/
- Disconnect your PSP from your computer and go the XMB menu. Go to GAME > Memory Stick then run the M33-4 update program. Follow the onscreen instructions and wait for 10 secs.
- Enjoy your newly updated PSP.

do you need 1.50 kernel add-on for 3.80 M33-4
kuya salamat sa guides mo steg!
pede ka rin ba gumawa ng guide para sa pandora battery
wakekekeke
I update my PSP to 3.80 without knowing my ISO would no longer work
Is there a risk that updating to M33-4 will cause my PSP to no longer work?
Any help welcomed
Stylemo, dunno what to say.. YOU ARE THE ONE! THX AGAIN FOR A WONDERFUL GUIDE
Keep up this work
Why does the battery absolutely have to be at 78%?
@cmlp13: the update requires enough battery so that your PSP won’t turn off in the middle of the update bricking your PSP. just follow the rules. it’s for your own good, really.
1. I don’t have a new battery yet, so im running on AC power
2. 3.80 M33-5 is out.
@Renz: wag na matakot. Cyempre aayusin naman ni Dark Alex yun eh. Yun o, lumabas na yung 3.80 M33-5. Mas stable na.
@cmlp13: You don’t need new battery.
Yung 1.50 Kernel 3.71 m33 for phat and we know it will not work for PSP slim. Pero paano nagawa sa greenhills na mainstall at mapagana sa PSP slim ko.
thnx sa tutroial mga boss… panu ba sign up d2???
ei guys any tutorial here on “how to make a PANDORA’S BATTERY” THANKS…
@Renz: According to Dark Alex and Mathieulh, 1.50 Kernel for the Slim was completely possible but it would be too much of a hassle and it would be pointless because of the Utopia project in production which will render kernels obsolete. But if you have the 1.50 Kernel on your slim right now then good for you. I own a fat PSP that’s why I don’t talk about it a lot when i’m not sure. If you wanna know how they installed the 1.50 Kernel on the Slim, I think they used jas0nuk’s ELF launcher. You need a special battery and some files on the memory stick.
@em2x: You don’t need to sign up here. Everything is free. Just feel free to browse around. Sure I’ll create a tutorial for the Pandora’s battery later this week if I have time. But for the meantime, you can search Google.
thnx men!!!
when upgrading to 3.80 M33 and installing the kernel add on 1.50 do i also have to reinstall the kernel add on when i upgrade to 3.80 M33-4?
@edisonho: If you have installed the 1.50 add on already on the early release of 3.80 M33, you don’t have to install it again.
where’s the 3.8 m33-5?
Hi,
I am new to all this a friend of mine hacked my psp and after he did it i have changed my memory stick and i have nothing on my memory except cso’s,music and/or movies.
my psp has 3.52 m33 firmware so if i follow the 3.52 m33-4 update guide then the 3.80 update guide in your opinion would that work.
If you agree or disagree please let me know if i should have other programs or information on my memory stick?
Any help would be great
Thanks heaps
im jw how u change 2 cfw 4.00 2 4.00 m33 on a psp fat
@kieran: You can’t. Why, you ask? Because it hasn’t been made yet. Please keep on going back here to see the latest update and instructionals on how to install it. Thanks!
I tried updating to 3.8 M33-2, but it appears “the game could not be started (80020148)” Battery info: 99% system version 3.80. Could anyone please help? Many Thx.
@w99: http://www.stylemo.com/2008/01/21/how-to-update-to-380-m33-5-custom-firmware/
@luke: Yes. Upgrade to 3.52 M33-4 first before going higher
@kieran: Your only hope is a pandora battery. If you don’t know what it is, then my best advice is find someone who knows what he’s doing and let him hack your PSP
@ULL: You say you are using 3.80, that’s means you are on official firmware. My advice my friend, is find somebody good at this (the whole hombrew thing) and let him do it for you.
i put a game on my psp and i didnt work my psp is fat and my customfirmware 4.01 what should i do….
Hello…
Before I do anything I would just like to check my firmware, because I don’t know it.
If anyone could tell me how, I would really appreciate that.
Thank you…
