How to Update to 3.80 M33-2 Custom Firmware

Just minutes ago, I wrote the installation guide for 3.80 M33 Custom Firmware. now I’m writing a guide on how to update 3.80 M33 to 3.80 M33-2. So why update? Is there a bug or something? Actually there is. This update is necessary for plugins and kernel homebrew reporting psp cpu speed. Also 80 by 80 PSX icons will not be replaced by a Dracula icon anymore.

So let’s get on with the guide. But first, a few reminders, I will not be held responsible if something happens to your PSP. I’ve updated mine using this guide I made and was successful.

The Requirements

  1. You will need a PSP installed with 3.80 M33 custom firmware. If you don’t have it yet, then follow this easy 3.80 M33 installation guide I wrote earlier.
  2. 75% Battery or more. Why? So you don’t brick your PSP when it shuts off in the middle of the update because you forgot to charge the battery.
  3. A USB Cable to connect your PSP to your computer.

Please make sure you pass all the requirements before getting on with the installation.

The Installation Guide

  1. Download the 3.80 M33-2 update files.
  2. Extract it anywhere on your computer.
  3. Connect your PSP to your computer via USB cable and copy the UPDATE folder from the file you’ve extracted to your PSP in this drive: ms0:/PSP/GAME/
  4. Disconnect your PSP from your computer then got the XMB menu. Scroll to GAME > Memory Stick and run the M33-2 Update Program. Follow the onscreen instructions.
  5. Enjoy your updated PSP!

If you love homebrew applications then you might consider installing the 1.50 Kernel add-on for 3.80 M33-2. This only works for the Phas PSP.

Can anyone tell me, how to update from 3.80 to 3.80 M33.
Coz, I have mistakenly network-update to 3.80 official firmware from Sony. So, I need the 3.80 M33 now to be able to run my memorystick games.

Could you please give me exactly which steps to take, I will do it exactly to get it done.

Thanks for you help in advanced

    @Sonylla
You need to downgrade your psp first using downgrader and pandora’s battery. then you can apply custom firmware.

Try http://www.psp-hacks.com/ or http://www.psp-vault.com/ for guides on how to downgrade.

But I’m not sure if your still able to downgrade from 3.80 official.

    Best of luck to you.

OK i have installed 3.80m33 with no problems so far, but now when i am trying to update to 3.80m33-2 or higher i cant get it to work.

i followed your instructions and placed the update folder in x:/psp/game just like i did with the 3.80 update but then when i try to access the update through the XMB it says “there are no games” even though i have placed the UPDATE folder in the GAMES folder and the GAME150 and i even made a GAME380 folder and placed it there.

i know for a fact that i installed 3.80 correctly because when i go to system info it says “3.80 m33″ and also when i try to use network update it says it found a new update and when i try to download it says “download failed”

can anyone please help me? i really want to be able to run homebrew, otherwise i would just use official firmware.

thanks in advance for any help.

@Jethro: Haven’t encountered that problem yet. Please check your Kernel settings in the recovery menu. It should be set to 3.80. And skip this guide because 3.80 M33-4 is already out. Follow my guide on that. http://www.stylemo.com/2008/01/17/how-to-update-to-380-m33-4-custom-firmware/

I’m having exactly the same problem as Jethro.. any advise?

  11. Darkstar says:

Even putting the 3.80 M33-5 Update in x:PSP/Game/ folder also doesn’t have the update file show up in the xmb game memory stick. Network update doesn’t work as i always get Download Failed error when tried to download it. So what now?

  12. Hassaanq says:

can i play games through memory card after installing this update?

  13. cesar says:
