How to Install the 1.50 kernel Add-on for 3.80 M33 Custom Firmware
This is the third guide I’ve written today. I was checking Dark Alex’s website a few minutes ago and I saw the 1.50 Kernel Add-on for the 3.80 M33. That was pretty quick. Dark Alex is really amazing. I downloaded the 1.50 kernel Add-on for 3.80 M33 and then installed it on my PSP. It was actually quite easy. The files I downloaded has no instructions so here’s the simple guide on how to do it. But like all of my other guides, there’s always a very tiny chance of bricking your PSP.
The Requirements
1. You will need a Fat PSP installed with 3.80 M33-2 custom firmware. The 1.50 Kernel Add-on does not work on the PSP Slim. Follow my 3.80 M33-2 custom firmware installation guide if you’re not into it yet.
2. 75% Battery or more. Why? So you don’t brick your PSP when it shuts off in the middle of the update because you forgot to charge the battery.
3. A USB Cable to connect your PSP to your computer.
Please make sure you pass all the requirements before getting on with the installation.
The Installation Guide
- Download the 1.50 Kernel Add-on for 3.80 M33 and the official 1.50 Sony Firmware.
- Connect your PSP to your computer via USB cable and copy the 150.PBP file you’ve downloaded to the root of your memory stick.
- Extract the 1.50 kernel Add-on file you’ve downloaded anywhere on your computer. There should be 4 files. Copy these files to your memory stick in this directory: ms0:/PSP/GAME380/UPDATE. If you don’t have the GAME380 and the UPDATE folder then you must create it manually.
- Disconnect your PSP to your computer and go to your XMB menu. Scroll to GAME > Memory Stick and run the 1.50 Kernel Addon program. Follow the on screen instructions and wait for the flashing of files to get finished.
- Enjoy your homebrew capable 3.80 M33-2 PSP!

Something is wrong with my FAT PSP. Im running 3.80 M33-2 and i follow the directions. Not that I had to i knew what to do but the thing is it gets to where its flashing the PSPNET_AP_DIALOG_DUMMY.PRX file its says error and it then goes back to the XMB, still cannot run any 1.50 homebrew. Anyone know how to get by this? Or can anyone send me the 150 files that it says its flashing so that I can manually install them?

Does this guide work with 3.80 M33-4?
January 20th, 2008 at 7:52 am
@N3w_Typ3: The FAt PSPs are the fatter ones. Fat PSPs have IR ports while the PSP slim doesn’t have it anymore.
@apajee: yes it will work with any 3.80 M33 release

Sweet

I had 1.50 kernel + 3.71 m33-4 before.
Will this new installation replace the old 1.50 kernel for 3.71 with 1.50 kernel for 3.80 m33-4? or will it brick?
Hope you understand!

just a question where is this path? root of the memory stick?
Connect your PSP to your computer via USB cable and copy the 150.PBP file you’ve downloaded to the root of your memory stick.

@apajee: Don’t do it man. It’s not the same so there’s a chance of bricking your PSP.
@deathstar: the root is the first level of your memory stick drive.

@The 1.50 Kernel Add-on let’s you play homebrew games and applications that are running on 1.50. Applications such as Wifi Sniffer, PSP Comic, PDF REader, there are tons out there. The PSP is not just about games you know.

@PSPjon: It’s an add-on so it runs on any version of 3.80 M33. So it’s safe to install it on your 3.80 M33-5 firmware.

Just upgraded to 3.80 M33. Do I still need to install 1.50 kernel even if i installed it when i was at 3.71 M33-2?
April 8th, 2008 at 7:29 am
@Pablo: You need to install one of DArk Alex’s custom Firmwares. But installing a custom firmware is never easy if you have the official firmware. I suggest you research more on this topic. But the first step is acquiring Pandora’s battery.
@troh: Yes troh. You need to reinstall 1.50 kernel again.

Are you sure you have 150.pbp on your root directory?
Download it again from a respective site bro.
Or re-download it again from the link Stylemo gave.
