iPod Touch comes to Stylemo
I’m really not a fan of the iPod but when I saw iPod Touch promotional videos on the web, I was really amazed. It was weeks ago when I told myself that I’m gonna be buying this thing. But not for me, it’s for my significant other. Although my first priority was the iPhone, I decided to go for the iPod touch first. I can have my iPhone later.
I synced it with my iTunes and tried every stuff available to do with it. I tried putting movies and songs in it. I really love the cover flow. It’s one of the best ideas apple came up with. I mean who would have thought of making that. By scrolling through the album covers and making a few taps, you will be able to play the right song you are looking for. That’s great.
And then I tapped on the videos icon to try out how the videos would look like. My reaction? Amazing. Although yesterday I was watching “Powerless”, the 11th episode of Heroes second season, the sound was disappearing at some point of the video. Maybe it was the video but I have to find it out later.
Another nice feature of the device is the YouTube application. It’s nice, really. It makes up for the absense of a Flash Player on the Safari browser on the iPod Touch. Yeah you read that right, there’s no Flash Player for the iPod Touch’s browser. Apple intended not to include that. Well, I just read about it on the web. The Photo application for the iPod Touch is also nice. But I’m really wondering why did Apple not put a camera for the device. It could have been a lot more better.
The calendar application is not really helpful at all. You can’t even add an event. Well that was before my firmware was 1.1.1. If you upgrade the firmware to 1.1.2 you’ll be able to add events now. But that’s it. No more nice features. I actually upgraded to 1.1.2 just to get that add event feature on the calendar. Then I realized there must be something more. So I searched the internet about hacking the iPod Touch and that’s when I learned about Jailbreaking the iPod Touch.
Last two days ago, I downgraded the iPod Touch to 1.1.1 again and then had Jailbreak performed on it. It’s actually really easy. Unlike the PSP which you always have the risk of bricking but with the iPod Touch, all you have to do is restore and you won’t have to worry about bricking it.
I’m really quite happy now that the iPod is Jailbroken. I had installed lots of apps on it. Mostly the useful ones, like the Last.fm scrobbler, weDict, SMBPrefs, NES Emulator and lots of neat stuff. The ipod Touch actually has 32 apps running on it now. Compare that to the 7 stock applications that comes with the device when we first purchased it. What are you gonna do with just 7 applications? You can’t live with that. So for those new owners of the iPod Touch, learn to Jailbreak it. Here’s a video on jailbreaking the iPod Touch if you want it easier. It’s easy, even a kid could do it.
You can view a gallery of the iPod touch on my flickr page.

anyat aramiden toy jailbreak? makargaam to iti uray anya nga apps?
December 8th, 2007 at 3:53 am
@darwin: yeah bro. You’ll be able to install tons of apps. Jailbreak is like enabling your ipod to have 3rd party apps installed on your iPod Touch. That’s just it. When you perform Jailbreak on your iPod, you will have the installer app which is the mother of all the other 3rd party apps.

dude dino! anyangayen?! i just sold my iphone yesterday! hehe pasikat! OK ang iphone and ipod touch high tech pero may mga downside din! dont go for the iphone, stay with your ipod touch or kaya N95 nlang hehe!
December 9th, 2007 at 12:28 am
@boloid: So what are the downsides? I’d still go for the iPhone dude. It’s hackable, it could be like little laptop. It could be your best friend. I’m tired of Nokia phones. I’ve been using them since i had my first phone. It’s time for a switch. iPhone’s the best and no one’s gonna change my mind.

1. iPhone dnt have PIM on its bluetooth, i mean indi pang data transfer ang blu tut nya! for headsets lang.
2. iPhone only has a 2 mega pixel camera (w/o flash).
3. iPhone doesnt have video camera. u cant capture videos/scandals or the like, pang picture lng.
4. you need iBricker or other sofwares just to save mp3 as your ringtone.
5. you cant update your iPhone’s firmware after unlocking or jailbreaking it, or else it will be re-locked and even AT&T sim wont work.
6. contacts are to be entered manually, there is no feature like copy from SIM.
other than that ok na sana ang iPhone. i used to think that iPhone is the best mobile device din, pero dude i was wrong…

im still waiting for my iTouch that’s arriving this week. im still thinking twice of using jailbreak. but im also contemplating of using it…to make itouch not so boring with the usual apps. post again if ever i used jailbreak.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:15 pm
@boloid:
1. I really don’t need the bluetooth function.
2. The 2 megapixel is fine with me. I have a digital camera so I wouldn’t really need a high resolution camera phone.
3. Capture scandals. I’m not that kind of person.
4. iBricker? Once you had your iPod or iPhone jailbroken you can install any application you want. And it’s very easy IF YOU KNOW. You can’t really install 3rd party applications on Nokia. I mean who makes 3rd party apps for Nokia? Can you install NES Emulator in the Nokia? Maybe, but no ones creating one. There are a lot of useful 3rd party apps that I really like for the iPhone and iPod Touch that I don’t find in a Nokia. And I think the N95 fits ONLY the old people.
5. I’ve just read about updating your iPhone without unbricking it.
6. Contacts can actually be imported from your computer.
I know the iPhone may not be the best device but it’s the one phone that has lots of 3rd party apps out there. I like the safari browser on the iPhone, the weather, and Mail applications. It really depends on what you do and your work. I’m a freelancer and I check and browse my mails anytime. The iPhone is really handy especially at times when I’m not carrying my laptop. And I’m a sucker for touch screen devices.
@darwin v. : Use jailbreak man. It won’t brick your device. You could always restore it using iTunes. Using jailbreak is easy if you just follow the instructions step by step. You won’t regret it. You’ll regret it if you sell it and change it for some Nokia phone. LOL.

@dino:

try to show me around jailbreaking when i get my iTouch.

December 10th, 2007 at 3:19 pm
@darwin v. : Do I need to show you around? The very easy to follow instructions can be found here: http://www.touchdev.net/wiki/Jailbreak_1.1.2
Do you remember Mr. Laureta, our highschool teacher? He’s the only one who can’t follow those instructions. hahahaha.

Uhmm
1. IPhone is freaking expensive
2. It’s like the exact same as an Ipod touch except that you can call ppl.
3. It’s an apple product lulz.

December 14th, 2007 at 9:57 am
@darwin v: Sure dude. I sent you an Email.
December 14th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
StyleMo:The Photo application for the iPod Touch is also nice. But I’m really wondering why did Apple not put a camera for the device. It could have been a lot more better.
DarwinV:Then it would already be the iTouch you’d love to have.
December 14th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
I can’t get hold of the iTouch and start the jailbreaking ‘coz my betterhalf and my son are watching harry potter V which I just loaded awhile ago…It made me think that the 7 stock apps are pretty useless compared to when you have 32 apps running…Darn, I can’t wait to jailbreak it this evening!
December 17th, 2007 at 3:17 pm
@advancedude
1. IPhone is freaking expensive - not really. I mean get a Nokia Phone, after two months a newer model is released. You dump your old phone and buy a new one. While if you have the iPhone, you only upgrade the firmware and not the unit.
2. It’s like the exact same as an Ipod touch except that you can call ppl. - not really. The iPod Touch has no camera. And the stock iPod Touch has no mail, weather and stocks application. So it’s not exactly the same. You would know that if you have those devices.
December 21st, 2007 at 1:33 am
i saw a vid of jailbreaking the iTouch…do i really need to have a wi-fi to have my iTouch jailbroken? and what if i dont have it here at home?
December 21st, 2007 at 7:41 am
@DarwinV. : You do need the WiFi man. If you don’t have WiFi at home, go get a wireless router and set up your own WiFi network. It won’t cost that much and I assure you it’ll be just as useful. With WiFi you could maximizze your iPod Touch’s capability.
December 27th, 2007 at 3:17 pm
sir stylemo, where can i find third party application softwares for ipod touch? im planning to jailbreak my ipod touch kse..if i jailbreak it ba? third party applications where included?

December 27th, 2007 at 3:46 pm
@timonty: when you jailbreak your ipod, the installer will be included and the list of applications will be updated automatically. So you’ll need to be able to connect to a wifi in order to do it.
December 27th, 2007 at 5:12 pm
