How to Upgrade to 3.71 M33-3
It’s been days since Dark Alex has released something for the PSP homebrew community but with his return he brings you the third update for his 3.71 M33 custom firmware. If you’re wondering what’s new on this update, well here they are exactly according to DAX:
- Fixed a bug in access to flash by usb.
- HEN core: kernel prx’s with syscall exports work again.
- PSP Slim: programmers can set the size of user memory to 52 MB by using a sfo flag.
Check sample in sdk for usage. - March33 NO-UMD driver:
* Fixed a bug that could hang the psp when exiting with home.
* Fixed compatibility issue with Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles, and maybe more games. - Vshmenu: it wasn’t displaying properly with psp slim TV-OUT due to the change of resolution. Fixed.
Below are the easy steps on how to do the update on your PSP.
Requirements
- A PSP with 3.71 M33-1 or 3.71 m33-2 Custom Firmware
- USB Cable for PSP to PC connection
Instructions
- Download the files here.
- Extract the contents of the file. Grab the UPDATE folder and copy it into your memory stick to the directory PSP/GAME/.
- On the XMB menu go to Games > Memory Stick and run the update. You will be asked to press X to start the update. Do so. The program will exit automatically and restart your PSP. You now have a PSP 3.71 M33-3 PSP
About the popsloader, I haven’t been able to try it yet. Actually I haven’t been using it for quite sometime. I really dig the new games around. But I’ll be glad to write something about it if a lot of people asked. Thank you all.
UPDATE: You can now skip this guide and go directly to the 3.71 M33-4 update. I wrote a guide on how to add the 1.50 Kernel Add-on for 3.71 M33. Please check it out if you need it.

What’s new on 3.71 m33-3?
November 15th, 2007 at 8:34 am
Btw, the castlevania bug, when I updated my firmware to 3.71, it can’t load my saves, it always says it’s corrupted. But I was hoping this patch can fix that but it didn’t… Do you experience the same problem with Dracula X?
November 16th, 2007 at 10:18 pm
>advancedude: are you using a fake sony memory stick?? cause if you are no maount of firmware can fix that..at least thats what i know.. go buy an original sony memory stick

Hi. i just wanna know if the popsloader version in this update is working? and how do I enable it?
thanks
November 29th, 2007 at 6:32 am
Bummer, followed your processes “exactly” and Homebrew apps/games no longer work.
1. Started with PSP-100 [fat] 3.02OE-A
2. Upgraded to 3.52 M33-4
3. Upgraded to 3.71 M33-1
4. Upgraded to 3.71 M33-3
Set “game folder homebrew” to 3.71 in recovery mode (rt shoulder + power on).
Homebrew games in the GAME150 folder no longer work giving the “80020148″ error.
November 29th, 2007 at 6:59 am
@peeper: That’s because you haven’t installed the 1.50 add-on yet.
November 29th, 2007 at 7:57 am
Stylemo, thank you for writing the guides, btw. I should have mentioned that in my previous note.
stylemo said “That’s because you haven’t installed the 1.50 add-on yet.”
Wow, I had no idea. Was that in the guide somewhere and I just missed it?
November 29th, 2007 at 9:14 am
I’m sorry that wasn’t in the guide but it’s fairly easy to install the 1.50 add-on. Please check out this page and download the 1.5 add-on file. You’ll be needing that file and the 1.50.PBP which you can also get from the site I gave you.
I’ve been very busy this week but if I’ve got some spare time, I’ll be writing another guide about installing the 1.50 add-on. Thanks peeper.
November 29th, 2007 at 2:01 pm
Thank you stylemo; that worked perfectly. To recap for others:
1. Download 1.50 add-on from link just above
2. Download 150.PBP from here –> http://72.29.74.204/~exophase/external/150.PBP
3. Copy 150.PBP to the root of the memory card (i.e. x:\)
4. Copy UPDATE folder from the 1.50 add-on link above into \PSP\GAME
5. Run the UPDATE program from the game menu
6. It will auto restart when finished
Thanks again to stylemo, and many others for their hard work!
December 1st, 2007 at 5:22 am
yo!! updated to M33-3 a few days ago and everything is perfect.. thanks for the great guides man..
December 1st, 2007 at 3:11 pm
hey This update sucks. the 3.52 M33-4 has much better advantages than this peace of shitty firmware. it doesnt even allow you to execute the umd dumper. feature. also pandora doesn’t work on it. so to those of you who already upgraded to this firmware two words for you “you’re screwed”
December 1st, 2007 at 3:14 pm
this is not a upgrader but much rather a downgrader cuz the features disable you to do simple stuff like copy data from umd to computer using a usb cord
December 2nd, 2007 at 4:28 am
@kyle - before u go off doggin’ the said fw, do the research kid. such action CAN be done with this fw, but perhaps not for the simple minded. instructions by host Styles can be found in THIS site as well… o, pandora does work, in fact, it’s not even necessary to downgrade with said update. this update rox especially for fellow gamers in the PS3 community
December 4th, 2007 at 9:57 am
Stylemo, just wanted to say thank you for this awesome tutorial. I was able to downgrade my 3.72 Fat PSP to 1.5, and then use your tutorials to push it back up to 3.71 m33 with no problems at all. I used a few other sites, and now have my PSP running just like it was before, with the added benefits of the CFW.
THANK YOU!
December 5th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
how do i know if i have the 1.50 kernel installed? i cant access recovery mode, holding r during restart just doesnt seem to work..
December 12th, 2007 at 2:15 am
maraming salamat kaibigan.
December 12th, 2007 at 12:19 pm
ash:
If you updated using the upgrade method on this site, you do not have 1.50 kernel installed. Go back to page 3, view post #28 by Peeper for a walkthrough on how to get 1.50 applications working again with your 3.71 M33-3 upgrade.
Thanks stylemo, you helped me get my PSP back up too. I appreciate your walkthroughs for those of us who are too scared/poor to try something that might ruin our PSP without anyone to hold our hand. Can’t wait to play my newer firmware PSP games! Everything works great!

December 21st, 2007 at 11:56 am
@cashew : mine’s working fine. You need to reset your device. You should go to Settings > System settings > restore default settings.
December 22nd, 2007 at 12:05 pm
@stylemo
i found the answer..
if ur under 3.71, either if its OFW or CFW, u will encounter an error when u scan for network if there isn’t any network available..
when i plugged my router, it worked fine..
but when i unplugged it, an error appears saying..
“internal error occured. (00000001)”
sony forum says its normal..
that’s it! hehehe
by the way, im on 3.71 M33-4..
i have an update, i cud send it to u if u want..
PINOY ROCKS!
December 22nd, 2007 at 12:44 pm
@cashew: I haven’t encountered that error but thanks for the info.

August 12th, 2008 at 2:48 am
Hi, I think this is a great forum. I have a question that hopefully someone may be able to answer. I have a PSP Slim running 3.71 M33-4. After I downgraded from version 4.05 (original), my themes no longer work and my wallpaper only stays for the current iteration, i.e., if I turn it off and back on the screen is black until I reset the original wallpaper. Whenever I try to apply a custom theme, I receive the “An internal error has occurred.(80108351). I’ve gone into the recovery menu, advanced, format flash 1 and reset device. It reset the device just fine, however the two problems still exist. All else appears to be fine. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

@Hazardz and @carlitoes2007@yahoo.com: Install 3.52 M33-4 on your PSP first or if you have Pandora, use DArk Alex’s Despertar del Cementerio v6
@system info: Yes you can install CFW on that PSP. You didn’t have to give your Mac Address, just your version. Use pandora. That’s the best way to do it.
@ metalflame: That might be a hardware problem. Did your PSP got wet or something?
@mgm2000on@yahoo.com: Try updating it to a higher custom firmware. Follow this: http://www.stylemo.com/2008/07/03/how-to-install-custom-firmware-401-m33-2-on-your-psp/
