How to Upgrade to 3.71 M33-2
Just a few days ago, Dark Alex released an update for 3.71 M33 custom firmware. The update fixed a few bugs. It also disables the VSH menu when on the onscreen keyboard. This update will let you toggle the on screen keyboard again. For the PSP Slim, a functionality to let the charge of battery when connecting a usb cable has been added. Let’s get it on with the guide.
Requirements:
- Fat or Slim PSP with 3.71 M33 custom firmware. If you don’t have a 3.71 M33 yet, here’s a guide for installing 3.71 M33.
- USB Cable
- Computer
- Make sure you have the kernel of GAME folder configured to 3.71. Shutdown your PSP then restart while pressing R then the recovery menu will appear. Go to Configuration>Game Folder Homebrew. Make it 3.71.
Instructions:
- Download the update here.
- Unzip the file anywhere on your computer. Connect your PSP to your computer then copy the contents of the UPDATE folder to ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE
- Go to XMB menu and then go to GAME>Memory Stick then run the Update
- Wait for 5 seconds. Voila! You now have a 3.71 M33-2 PSP
After you have this installed, head on to the next guide on how to install update 3 for 3.71 M33. Let’s give thanks to Dark Alex for his hard work.
UPDATE: You can now skip this guide and go directly to the 3.71 M33-4 update. I wrote a guide on how to add the 1.50 Kernel Add-on for 3.71 M33. Please check it out if you need it.

October 5th, 2007 at 9:44 pm
actually it refuses to load cso files and will not show the iso at all
October 8th, 2007 at 11:30 am
Try booting into recovery (hold R when starting PSP up), going under Configuration, and changing the kernel setting to 1.50 from 3.71. Worked for me, I was having the same problem.
October 8th, 2007 at 3:42 pm
if i do not have the 3.71 kernel, can i still upgrade?
October 8th, 2007 at 6:15 pm

i just upgraded to 3.71 m33-2 i realized that i’ve lost some storage space on my memory stick. if u highlight the contents of the stick it’ll say i’ve used up 1.15GB but according to the properties i used up 2.46GB. So i basically lost 1.31GB. Why is that?
October 14th, 2007 at 1:49 am
Just wanna ask if somebody can tell me how 2 connect psp to the internet without hotspot??
October 14th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
Thanks again ;D
October 14th, 2007 at 1:53 pm
How about the 1.50 Kernel add-0n? I tried updating but it says “Incorrect or inexistent of the 1.50 PBP at the root”. What’s up with this. I already have the 3.71 M33 installed. Thanks +KARMA

October 15th, 2007 at 3:13 am
I had my PSP (FAT) on 3.71 m33 and only some CSO games worked…I got craxy taxi and sega rally working! My Tekken 5 and Fifa 08 dont work and no ISO files read..so I booted the PSP (holding R) chnged the kernel to 1.50 from 3.71 and still no luck! I then installed 3.71 m33-2 and its still the same! Why is this? it was all fine when I had 3.52 m33-4?
October 15th, 2007 at 3:42 am
Thanks to Sebas this worked for me..now my CSO games are working..will try an ISO file!
guys i found something tt works!!
Make sure the title of the ISO/CSO is short.
Example:
Correct — Fifa07.iso
Not Correct — FIFA-07-[PSP][EUR][www.torrent site.com].iso
——————————————————————-
Now right click on the ISO/CSO file and choose Properties. Make sure the Read Only and Hidden box is unchecked and the Archive Box is checked.
——————————————————————-
Go into recovery mode (Hold R shoulder button down while turning on PSP)
Now go to configuration then to UMD MODE and keep pressing X till you see Sony NP9660 NO UMD.
When it is set to the above setting go to BACK and press X.
Now go to ADVANCED and press X.
Go to ADVANCED CONFIGURATION and press X.
Make sure all the settings here are disabled.
Now EXIT out of recovery.
Now try the ISO/CSO.

Here’s the link:
http://www.elotrolado.net/hilo_3-71-M33-2-y-addon-del-kernel-1-50-v-2_858163
Just click/copy-paste it and dload the file

thanx for trying speed but it doesn`t work
but i`m not to sure where to put everything,
the directions aren`t to clear.
October 20th, 2007 at 8:22 am
yea it’s in spanish. just put UPDATE folder in the .rar in the /PSP/GAME folder. Now, make sure ur psp is set 3.71 in the recovery menu. Now dload this eboot http://dl.qj.net/PSP-Firmware-1.50-File-(EBOOT)-North-America-PSP/pg/12/fid/163/catid/163
And rename it 150.PBP
Now, place it in the root of ur mem stick. Exit and go to games, MS in ur psp. the program should run and u should be able to run homebrew now.
AND BTW, my fifa08 iso isn’t working in 3.71 M33. it won’t even show up in XMB. pls help!!!!!!!!!!!
October 20th, 2007 at 10:33 am

October 24th, 2007 at 12:50 am
Whoa, polo, c’mon!!!!!!!!!! I don’t suck!!!!!!
Without me, ud be stuck with a non-homebrew PSP!!!!!!!
So just give the insults a rest already!!!! (just kidding)

Hi All Expert, I just bought PSP SLIM and upgraded using auto update from PSP menu. If I am not wrong my version right now is 3.71. Can you advice me what the next step should I take for play downloaded game? Thank you very much.
October 25th, 2007 at 1:56 am
@sapiduta - The downloaded games I know of are the PSP game demos. You may check out my old post about game demos here. http://www.stylemo.com/2006/11/03/i-love-psp-game-demos/
October 25th, 2007 at 2:06 am
I’ve updated to 3.71m33-2. Do I still need to add the 1.50 eboot update or is it included in the 3.71m33-2 update. Sorry if I seem a dunce but the posts above seem to refer to 3.71m33 (original).
October 25th, 2007 at 2:19 am
@Tombellpsp - the 1.50 eboot update isn’t included in this tutorial.
October 25th, 2007 at 12:42 pm
You’re not alone, brother: My ISOs won’t even show up on the XMB of my Slim 3.71 M33-2…
Some CSOs do load, I even tried changing the ISOs to CSOs to no avail…
Could we possibly edit say, the header of the ISO files so they are recognized?
What could be the problem???
Could any 3.71 M33 Slim owner (whose PSP can load ISOs) specify all the settings in the recovery menu so I can copy those in mine?
Tried everything: formatting MS (original and fake) inside and outside the PSP, converting the ISO into a CSO, playing around with the recovery settings, all of that got me a hot brain (that one runs OK, by the way, but it’s a CSO).
Appreciate the support!
October 25th, 2007 at 12:45 pm
Don’t flame me here, I’ve already read the previous posts, even tried Raj’s suggestions (changing file properties).
Another question… I see some people are doing just fine on 3.40-OE… Could i downgrade my Slim to that one?
Thx
October 25th, 2007 at 2:39 pm
I don’t think the PSP slim would support the 3.40-OEs because they were made with 3.60 firmwares. Haven’t tried it coz I only own a fat PSP which I think is way better than the new one.
October 25th, 2007 at 10:51 pm
everyting works fine 4 my fat psp version 3.71. the problem is i cnt save a game file. y?
October 25th, 2007 at 10:56 pm
can 3.71 downgrade to 3.52?
October 26th, 2007 at 1:39 am
@Jumi: Yeah it’s possible but it would be complicated if it’s your first time. Don’t tinker with your PSP if you are not sure what you are doing. You don’t wanna get it bricked. You can always buy or borrow UMDs if you wanna play games.
October 27th, 2007 at 12:47 pm
how do i noe whether my psp is brick or not? my psp now wen i on it, screen shows like it is off. meaning wen i on it, nothing come out. just black screen. is it brick?
November 1st, 2007 at 12:33 pm
Yeah Jumi, when the led light on the right side of your PSP keeps on flashing and screen is black, you’ve probably bricked your PSP.

November 20th, 2007 at 12:26 pm
hi, i really need some help here. ive just recently ugraded my fat psp’s fw from 3.40 oe-a to 3.71 m33-2. now my games dont load the picture and upon clicking just fades to a blank screen with the orange flickering light on the left. ive tried downloading the 1.50-2 addon, but the 1.5 eboot is unavailable on the site that speed gave.
someone please help me solve this.
thanks!
November 20th, 2007 at 12:32 pm
@Clarence: You directly upgraded from 3.40 OE-A to 3.71M33-2? Aren’t you reading the instructions carefully? You can’t upgrade directly from a 3.40 OE-A. You should upgrade to 3.52 M33-4 first.
The instructions are very clear here. You should read carefully next time please.
