How to Install 3.52 M33-4 on Your PSP

As I promised Fat Of The Land and a lot more other people around the net, I’ll be writing a guide on the installation of 3.52 M33-4 custom firmware for the PSP. If you’re wondering what in the world 3.52 M33-4 is, it’s a custom firmware built by russian hackers that enables you to play homebrew and also enjoy the features of the official 3.52 sony firmware.

Before we begin with the process, here are a few simple things to do first.

Check your existing PSP Firmware.

On your XMB (Cross Media Bar), go to Settings > System Settings > System Information. Press circle or x (it depends on what PSP version you have) to view your existing firmware. If you have a 1.5 or any custom OE/SE firmware, you are in luck. You can proceed to the next step, otherwise, you must downgrade your PSP first. I suggest you use Pandora’s battery for the downgrade.

Obtain a USB Cable

If you don’t know what a USB cable is, I assure you won’t be successful with the installation. A USB cable is a connectivity tool between your PC/Mac and PSP.

Download the 3.52 M33-4 Installer Package

I packed all the files into a RAR file so you won’t have any trouble locating the files around the net. After downloading the file, unpack it using WinRAR. I’ve separated each step into separate folders so everything will be organized.

Download the 3.52 M33-4 installer pack.

Check Your Battery

I suggest you must have more than 75% battery to avoid bricking. And also plugin the adaptor.

If you have correctly followed the few simple steps above, then we are ready to go on to the installation process.

Warning: I have succesedfully installed 3.52 M33 on 3 PSPs already but there is a slight chance of bricking your PSP, only if you won’t follow the instructions step by step. Don’t worry if you brick your PSP, you can always use Pandora’s battery.

3.52 M33-4 Installation Procedures

  1. If you have are running on an OE or SE custom firmware, SKIP this step and proceed to STEP 2. Connect your PSP to your computer. Open the STEP 1 folder and copy kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher% folders to ms0:/PSP/GAME/. Disconnect your PSP from your computer and then on the XMB go to GAME > Memory Stick > KXploit Permanent Patcher. Run it. Once done, delete the kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher% folder from your ms0:/PSP/GAME/ folder. Proceed to next step.
  2. Connect your PSP to your computer. Open STEP 2 folder then copy the M33CREATOR folder to your “ms0:/PSP/GAME” (for 1.50 Firmwares) or “ms0:/PSP/GAME150″ (for SE/OE Firmwares). Disconnect your PSP from your computer then on the XMB menu go to GAMES > Memory Stick and execute 3.52 M33 CREATOR. For noobs, the screen will normally go black so don’t panic. Once the process is finished it will automatically go back to the XMB.On your XMB, go again to GAMES > Memory Stick on your PSP, and execute 3.52 M33UPDATE. You’ll have to press X at your own risk to agree to the installation. Don’t you turn off your PSP until the process is complete or you’ll end up bricking it. When finished, you’ll have to press X again and reboot your PSP manually. Reboot by turning of your PSP and then turning it on again. You’ll then have a 3.52 M33 PSP. You can now delete the M33CREATOR folder form your “ms0:/PSP/GAME” folder on your PSP.
  3. Open STEP 3 folder and then copy M33Update4 folder to mso:/PSP/GAME150. On your XMB menu go to GAMES > Memory Stick then execute the update. After the update you will be back on the XMB and you now have 3.52 M33-4 PSP. Delete the M33Update4 folder from mso:/PSP/GAME150. From the STEP 3 folder, copy the seplugins folder to the root of your memory stick.
  4. Turn off your PSP then turn it on again while pressing the R button. This will take you to the recovery menu. Go to Plugins and enable popsloader by pressing x. After enabling it, go to back and then exit.
  5. Enjoy your PSP 3.52 M33-4!

You have PSP 3.52 M33-4, now what? Get those cool homebrew apps! You can either stick with this firmware for some time or upgrade it to 3.71 M33. I had mine installed with 3.71 M33 already and I say it’s really cool. There are new features like changing themes from XMB and a new kind of Video search.

As these guys are asking: please renew the 3.52-4 installer pack file. Thanks! :) (anxiously awaiting)

  5. stylemo says:

Hi guys. I’ve just reuploaded the file on MediaFire. I can’t upload it on box.net because uploads for basic users are limited to 10 MB. You can get it here.

  6. karan says:

i can do da 5th task this one—From the STEP 5 folder, copy the seplugins folder to the root of your memory stick.
    ………..plz help me

  7. stylemo says:

hi karan. don’t even try to install 3.52 on your PSP is you don’t understand the instructions. Not everything is spoonfed you know.

  8. Rex says:

this is a great guide. i saw this on google, easy to access. props to guide maker and the m33 peeps. i think i’ll donate.

  9. Iasthaai says:

You know, while I was waiting for the new file to be uploaded I just did it myself. And you don’t need to install ALL the version to get up to M33-4, you only need to install 3.52 M33 and then upgrade to M33-4…so I don’t know why you posted all the extra unnecessary steps, stylemo.

  10. Iasthaai says:

So, I’m just letting everyone know if they skip steps 3 and 4, they’ll be fine.

  11. stylemo says:

Thanks for the information Iasthaai. I’ll be updating this guide in a while.

  12. LuvPSP says:

    Very smooth installation guide. THANKS!

Just one thing still missing on this Custom Firmware is LocationFree Player.
The icon is there but nothing happens when trying to open.
So unfortunately I now need to go back to 3.03OE to use it.
I’ll have to email the creator of this CF to get this fixed.

    Everything else looks good though.

  13. Markus1434 says:

i cant do 3 step: When i start it only come: The Game could not be started. (80020148) I just have already custom (3.52 M33-1) Like step 2… litle help

  14. Iasthaai says:

    Markus1434:

Why are you trying to upgrade to M33-2? Are you not going all the way to M33-4? If you are going to M33-4 just install the M33-4 update…not the M33-2 and M33-3 update…you’re just wasting your time…but your choice.

  15. RIGZ says:

I have PSP 3.52 version and I try to install 3.52 M33-4 update. When I start the 1st step , “The game could not be started (80020148)”.

  16. RIGZ says:

How can I upgrade my PSP 3.52 to 3.52 M33-4? please help me b’coz I try the 1st step, but The game could not be started (80020148). What does it mean? thanks

  17. stylemo says:

    RIGZ:

You need to have a homebrew enabled PSP which means you need a PSP with a 1.5 firmware or any of the custom firmwares. I think you need to downgrade your PSP first before trying this one. Please search Google about PSP homebrew first before trying anything else. Thanks.

  18. Jake says:

  20. stylemo says:

If you have 1.5, you have to run step 1. It fixes the ID storage keys.

  21. JEUZ says:

    Thanks a lot dude! You’re great!.. :-)

  22. stylemo says:

    Hey,

I got 3.03 Oe-c on my psp (thats what my psp tells me)
But when i go on my psp i see a map iso and a map psp.
When i go in psp there are some maps and 1 maps name is game but not game150 :S do i need to downgrade it or can i just so this tut ?

    Plz email me :)

    Greatings,
    Yannick

  28. Yannick says:

ok hold on i just set the game map to 1.50 is that correct ?? or do i need it to be 3.03 ??

  29. stylemo says:

Yannick: Check if you are running 1.50 kernel on your GAME folder by going to the recovery menu. Now how do we do that? First, shutdown your PSP and then turn it on again while pressing R button. It will then take you to the recovery menu. Got to the configuration > Game Folder Homebrew and check if it’s 3.03. If it’s not, change it to 3.03 then exit the recovery menu.

After that begin with Step 2.

  30. Yannick says:

Thank you :) its 3.03 right now so i need to charge my battery :)

  31. Yannick says:

    I get a error that it can’t run the game ?? :S ??

Im running on 3.03 OE-c :S game folder is running on 3.03…

  32. Yannick says:

    error is (80020148)

  33. stylemo says:

If your GAME folder is running on 3.03 then create a folder named GAME150 then there you put the M33Creator.

    Hope that helps.

  34. Dave says:

thanks you man ,you rock the change worked!!!

  35. Yannick says:

delete the folder game ??? or rename it to GAME150 ??

I can put the game folder in 1.5 :S?

  36. Yannick says:

    Nvm its working :)

  37. Yannick says:

Its on my psp :D up to 3.71 m33 :D ty m8 job well done :)

  43. SHARIF says:

    I’ve upgrade to 3.71 m33, the problem
    1. i cannot play fifa 08. after intro, screen turn black, what is the problem? i’ve set my xmb speed to 133, iso/umd to 222 and still not working. Why?
    2. I’ve copy 5 iso/cso files to my ISO folder, but only Fifa08 are shown and 1 Corrupted image, why is like this? I’ve got 4GB Sony PSP memory stick.

Please someone help me with this. Anything? Any how?

  44. SHARIF says:

How to know if my 4gb stick is original or fake? If fake, can i do something about it to be able to use it as it supposed to be?

  45. J@ says:

When I did step 2, after I ran the ‘3.52 M33 CREATOR’, I started to run the ‘3.52 M33UPDATE’ and got the error message : ‘Checking the psar integrity…Incorrect psar’ – HELP ! thanx in advace, J

  46. stylemo says:

SHARIF: Does your other games work? I don’t have FIFA 08 so I haven’t encountered that problem yet.

J@: Try using a different memory stick.

  47. ac says:

im getting an incorrect psar error when i go to run m33 update

  48. ac says:

    on 2 different mem sticks.

  49. stylemo says:

Are you using 4 Gig mem sticks? I’ve encountered this one already and I switched to 1Gig mem sticks and it worked.

Do you have a TA-082 motherboard?

  50. mp says:

i have successfully done everything except to figure out where to put the seplugins folder. help please

  51. Paganist says:

Howdy folks, just need a little help here. Like most of us i want to be able to download and play games on my psp so I did a bit of reading and a website said I needed Firmware 3.52 or higher, so I upgraded to that except now it still won’t work, found out i had to install a CFW so i went and got m33’s 3.52 but it’s not installing. Any help?

  52. falta7 says:

umm.. so if I followed all these steps and did everything right theres 0% chance of bricking?

  53. stylemo says:

    falta7: Well it should be.

  54. Virgilio says:

Im afraid to do step one. i copied the kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher% folders to ms0:/PSP/GAME/. when i go to the game menu i see the kexploit permanent patcher but under it there is file wich is corrupted should i proceed? i downgraded to 1.50 yesterday from 2.71 and im on a TA-082 motherboard if that helps. Yes this is my first time installing custom firmware.

  55. Divisoria says:

dont worry about it i have a ta-082 and it works awesomely
and i only got into the homebrew scene a few days ago!

oh and just some info, once you downgrade a ta-082 to 1.50 it acts like any other psp so you can run every home brew app easily

p.s corrupted data is the stuff that makes homebrew work so once you do the hack you can go into recovery mode and hide all the corrupt icons.

  56. Virgilio says:

Errr…after completing step 2 of this guide
i umm formated my memory stick( didnt know what the hell i was thinking…) so whe i proceed to step 3 where it says “Open STEP 3 folder and then copy M33Update4 folder to mso:/PSP/GAME150. On your XMB menu go to GAMES > Memory Stick then execute the update. After the update you will be back on the XMB and you now have 3.52 M33-4 PSP. Delete the M33Update4 folder from mso:/PSP/GAME150. From the STEP 5 folder, copy the seplugins folder to the root of your memory stick.”
there is no GAME150 folder so i decided to make one. When i go to games nothing shows…should i copy the M33Update4 folder to mso:/PSP/GAME and try and run the update?

  57. Divisoria says:

it should have showed up even if you just created it, where did u create it?

  58. Virgilio says:

    mso:/PSP/

  59. McGyver says:

I want to upgrade from 3.40 version to 3.52 M33-4. I have followed the steps but along the way an error appears indicating that the game cannot be loaded (error 8002— something). I am trying to downgrade to version 1.50 but seems there are no available downgrade installer.

  103. stylemo says:

You need a UMD in order to play most of the games but you can tinker with the UMD ISO MODE settings by pressing the HOME button while on XMB to display the VSH menu.

To all people having trouble with their ISOs, try reformattng your memory stick or resetting the device. Most of your questions are answered in the comments you just have to scroll through it. Thanks.

I got a question. I am on 3.40 OEA. I did all the instructions as listed. Looks fine but at the end of it all, the firmware shown is still the same.

Is it suppose to be like that?

  105. Max says:

When I run the creator I am getting
    Loading 1.50 firmware… OK
    Writing 1.50 firmware… OK
    Loading 3.52 firmware… OK
    Writing 3.52 firmware…
and it stays like that for 20 minutes? what should i do? HEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!
Does this mean I’m doomed already for BRICK if I turn off my PSP? WHAT TO DO????

  106. stylemo says:

hey Max, that’s not supposed to happen. What was your last firmware you upgraded from. if ever you bricked your PSP, you can always use pandora’s battery to revive your device.

  107. Max says:

Hi! I came out for 2 hours and I came back now and I found out that proccess has finished with success. Woah!
Now I have to do STEP 3…I hope everything will be OK.
I had Dark Alex’s 3.10 OE-A and I fresh formated 1 GB MS Sony Pro Duo before this. maybe that caused a delay. Anyways, thank you stvlemo for trying to help.

  108. Max says:

everything went Ok, I just want to ask a question:
Do I really need POPSLOADER to play PSX games. Because I had only to upgrade to 3.10 OE-A and I would put PSX game’s EBOOTS in ISO folder where I put PSP games and everything would work just fine. So do I really need popsloader now?

  109. BassGX says:

Hi. I don’t know if this has ANYTHING to do with this, but i have a problem. I updated my PSP successfully to 3.51 M33 with my 1GB Memory Stick, but after i updated, my memory stick was still in and the PSP couldn’t read it. The memory stick light just kept blinking nonstop. I took it out and placed it in again and again. It still couldn’t read it. I’m wondering if you know what the problem is ’cause I’m planning on getting a new memory stick. A 4GB. Plz help.

  110. Ant says:

I cannot get the download to work on Mediafire, the download fails everytime it gets to 3.59MB??

Is this unique or have other experienced the same thing??

I’ve been out of the game for a while and still got 3.03OE-C!!

    Time for a change!

  111. stylemo says:

@BassGX – You have a corrupt memory stick. Time to get a new one.

@Ant – the file is there. Retry a few times. Mediafire is still buggy.

  112. Jason says:

I’m having the same problem as Max on Step 2 and I’m not sure why… it says:

    3.52 M33 FIRMWARE CREATOR

    Loading 1.50 firmware… OK.
    Writing 1.50 firmware… OK.
    Loading 3.52 firmware… OK.
    Writing 3.52 firmware… *waiting for 20 minutes*

I’ve upgraded successfully to 3.52 M33 before from an 3.40 OE-A. I don’t know why its not working for this 1.5 downgraded PSP. :(

  113. stylemo says:

@Jason: Did the screen turn black? if so, just press the directional buttons. The backlight just might have turned off. Press any of the directional buttons to turn on the backlight again.

  114. Syphon says:

Could you please upload the file again?

    It doesn’t work :(

    please use rapidshare

  115. Vis says:

can u plz split with winrar and ul to rapidshare. the current host isnt working. thax

  116. Vis says:

nevermind, mediafire’s servers are working properly again now, slow tho at 7KB/sec. Thanks for the file!

  117. Vis says:

Oh, the link has stopped working all together now. Can anybody who already has this file upload it someplace? Tx

  118. OMGGGG says:

HELp! when i start the installation the PSP screen comes up as if starting a game but it got stuck there and the light of the memcard is on (not blinking) what am i suppose to do???

  119. jackass says:

  120. abs says:

Could you please upload the file again
    please

  123. stylemo says:

Good news. I had the file reuploaded to a new server. Grab it while you can.

  124. Josh says:

“”" @Jason: Did the screen turn black? if so, just press the directional buttons. The backlight just might have turned off. Press any of the directional buttons to turn on the backlight again. “”"

Hi – I’m having the same issue as Jason and a few others on here as follows:

    Loading 1.50 firmware … OK
    Writing 1.50 firmware … OK
    Loading 3.52 firmware … OK
    Writing 3.52 firmware …

It’s been 30 minutes. According to Jason after a few hours it processed.

Like you said, just push the directional pad and it will refresh itself… however still not processed.

I’ve always had the original 1.50 version since I owned this PSP. I have a few custom emulators downloaded on my memory stick and some MP3 files, but that’s it.

I wonder what my issue is? I’ll let it sit for awhile then come back and see what happens.

If anyone can provide some insight, that would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  125. KILLZONE says:

Josh: You just have to wait, mine took lore than 20mins, im not sure if you can turn your PSP off but after than process when I try to update my PSP the gameboot showed up but then I waited for more than an hour and still nothing happens then I took the risk and turn my PSP off and boot it again. And guess what it did not brick and I did that twice before I finally successfully updated my PSP

  126. Josh says:

    Thanks KILLZONE.

Just so I fully understand – you shut yours off then restarted then did the same process and it worked after a few tries?

Then, once that worked, the next step took a long time too? I think that is what you were saying.

  127. KILLZONE says:

Josh: The first process really took a long time “the writing 3.52 something” so just wait for a while cause I’m not sure if you can turn off your PSP if it really took uber long. After that process you will have to select the firmware update from your game menu-memory stick and then it will run the update. the psp logo will appear and it should just take you a couple of minutes. But if you encounter the psp logo not dissapearing for a really long time then i suggest you shut off your PSP and try again

  128. Danny says:

Ok I think its safe to say that I need some help I got my CFW 3.52 M33 set up pretty good, not sure if this show any signs or a error with in my PSP, but like when I try to disconect the psp from my computer psp reads please wait and never restarts, another one is I was able to switch my usb to umd disc saved it on my desktop and put it in my ISO folder, when trying to start my ISO game I would just get a black screen and after messing around a bit on it and made some changes in config. it now reads “The game could not be started (80020148), Ive been trying to read as much about to get it done right, but just thought Id ask for some help. Thank you in advance.

    Danny

  129. stylemo says:

@Danny: What exactly is your current firmware?

  130. Danny says:

    I have 3.52 M33-4

  131. Danny says:

Im thinking its somewhere in my configuration and Ive followed the configurations as posted on here before but maybe possibly in the advanced/advanced configuration should both plain modules in umd/iso and execute BOOT.BIN in umd/iso be ENABLED, or is it the flash, Im still kind of new to this and know that this part is a bit fragile, or what should I have my CPU speed at. another thing Ive noticed is that in my plugins I have 3 popsloader.prx [POPS] Im ganna try having only one enabled and the other two disabled.

  132. JLP says:

how can i load my game saves if im using the 3.52 M33-4 and my games saves are from when i was using the 3.40 OE-A

  133. JLP says:

im asking this cause i was playing manhunt 2 on the 3.40 oe-a and i was just about to finish it when i upraded my psp to the 3.52 M33-4 and now a cant play the game where i left it cause it says “corrupt data” or something like that when i tried 2 load it, so i really wanna know what i can do to keep playing my game,,, anyway thx 4 the firmware dude…

  134. Daniel_Tiger says:

fuxin ya fothermucker!! Much Much Thanks Man!!!

  135. Danny says:

Ok heres another question, following up to my previous question. (Im able to switch my usb to a umd disc and copy past it to my desktop then drag it back to my memory stick, and when I open it threw the psp it looks and reads it as a game not as corrupt data so I think its good to go but when I try to play it I still get the “The game could not be started (80020148)”, but since I have a software that opens iso files it also get the game from that software, so is it possible that thats the reason its not work, because the way the game was retrive in the first place? oh and the software for the ISO is powerISO. any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks to any one in advance.

    Danny.

HOW TO UNBRICK PSP CAN SOMEONE HELP!!! >

  143. stylemo says:

@burner: You should try another memory stick. Memory sticks with 2Gig and below capacities work best. Format your Memory stick just to be sure.

@boom: Try accessing the recovery mode. If you can’t access it, there’s Pandora battery to do the trick.

  144. burner says:

thanks.. i will try formating my stick.. it is a 2gb stick.

  145. burner says:

    2nd step:

HEY THERE TNX FOR THE 3.52M33 UPGRADE! BUT IAM AFRAID TO

THAT MANY GAMES ARE NOT WORKING ON 3.71 WITH ISO AND CSO

    FILES…IS IT TRUE?!…I NEED ADVICE..

  173. stylemo says:

@James 25: it’s not true that many isos or csos won’t work on 3.71 M33. Well in fact there are more supported games by this firmware. Those issues can be solved by upgrading with a formatted memory stick and following the instructions correctly. Some isos won’t work if they have filenemes longer than 50 characters.

It’s really your choice if you want to upgrade. I’m just here to guide you but it’s still your choice.

Hey, i just upgraded to 3.52 M33-4. can u plz explain to me how and where to put in .CSO files to run them in the psp plz. ty

  183. stylemo says:

@help me: first you have to format your memory stick first on your PSP. Then after doing so, open your memory stick on your computer and place your isos or csos inside the ISO folder.

  184. HELP NEEDED says:

HELP NEEDED im running 2.71 SE-B and trying to update, somehow i CANT access the PSP/GAME/ folder if i put the first 2 files in it (kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher%)…it hangs and then it shuts itself down, anyone can help?

FYI i tried the generic update first at the beginning easydowngrader now im thinking if i bricked it…however i can access my photo folder etc..any help is welcome

  185. Im very new to this updating, anyway can anyone tell me how to upgrade to 3.71 m33 if you have a 2.71SE-B firmware? my steps so far where: using the generic downgrader by 2.71 Downdater by Dark_AleX/Mathieulh/Yoshi seems not to help it doesnt show the red screen. My thoughts are like this 2.71SE_B>1.50>then to 3.52M33>3.71m33 anyone can tell me what im doing wrong?

  186. stylemo says:

@HELP NEEDED: If you aren’t really sure where to start, restore your PSP to 1.50 first then upgrade it to 3.52 M33, after that you’ll be ready to update to 3.71 M33

  187. tats kind of my problem where is a full easy installation guide to 1.50, the easy downgrader by Alex didnt give me the red screen till now…

  188. stylemo says:

@HELP NEEDED AGAIN: Dude, why did you use the easy installer? If you say you were running from 2.71 SE then you really don’t need a downgrader or anything. All you need is the 1.50 firmware. Use the recovery mode to downgrade. It’s that easy. You may have bricked your PSP now. Again, you must always research before you do anything on your PSP. Regrets always comes at the end.

  189. how do you know when its for sure bricked? I still can play that UMD Pro Evolution game on the disc.

  190. stylemo says:

It’s not bricked then. A PSP is bricked when you can’t start or open it even with the green light on. If you want me to help you, you can give me your Yahoo Messenger handle so wh could just chat.

  191. hey stylemo, i hve fixed it thnx for ur help anyway!

  192. darwin v. says:

    @dino:
    i have my cousin’s psp 2.71
    want to make it 3.71
do i still need to make it 1.5?

  193. stylemo says:

@darwin v. :Yes. Here are the steps you have to do.
    1. Upgrade it to 2.80 – Get the 2.80 US version. You’ll find it on dl.qj.net. Use the search function.
    2. Then downgrade to 1.5 using the 2.80 downgrader – Go to noobz.eu for that downgrader. They have all the instructions on their website.
    3. When you already have a 1.5 PSP, upgrade it to 3.52 M33-4 – You can find the instructions here
    4. After that you can now install the 3.71 M33-2 custom firmware – You can find the instructions here too. Just search

  194. poch says:

dude i have a psp version 2.80. how can i upgrade it? i want to use a memory stick for the games coz cant afford a umd. and what is the most usefull version now? tnx

  195. stylemo says:

@poch : Why did you ever buy a PSP if you don’t want to buy a UMD? Try downloading PSP game demos instead.

I’m buying UMDs and that’s the only way to support game creators. Playing downloaded games from your PSP is a form of Piracy. I’ve been in the PSP scene for more than a year and I’ve seen lots of gamers complaining about bad games. Now why the hell is that? It’s because more and more people are not buying UMDs anymore.

The custom firmware was a good thing because it enables you to run homebrew applications. It was meant for third party applications and not for promoting mass piracy.

Anyway, I’m here to help. Here use this link to achieve your goal. link

thanks for clearing everything, but i have a little problem i am confused about. I have only done step 1 of your instructions which is running KXploit Permanent Patcher. Then when i moved to the 2nd step, i realized that the second step requires a memory stick higher than 30MB, so now i bought a new 4 GB memory stick, the problem is that i am confused if i should begin from the first stage or carry on to the second. Can you plz help me if you are free some time, can you plz send me your suggestion to mazin_ibrahim@hotmail.com

  202. [...] you need. Hopefully these will be easier to understand. First you need to install 3.52 M33-4: Stylemo » Blog Archive » How to Install 3.52 M33-4 on Your PSP Then you will need to install 3.71 M33-3: Stylemo » Blog Archive » How to Upgrade to 3.71 M33-3 [...]

  203. stylemo says:

@mazin : If you upgrade to 3.52 M33-4, you won’t have to use devhook anymore. If you have 1.50 firmware follow the installation instructions from step 1. But before that you must check if you have the correct requirements.

  204. mazin says:

  206. If i Installed 3.52 M33-4 on my PSP and afterthat can i switch back to my 1.5 firmware again???
    any advice??
    pls help
    thank u in advance

  207. stylemo says:

@its_winnie@hotmail.com : Absolutely yes. You could always switch back but why bother? The 3.52 M33-4 has already the 1.50 kernel so there’s no point on going back to 1.50. Upgrade your firmware now dude. If you don’t like 3.52 M33-4 then I’ll teach you how to revert back to 1.50

  208. dr says:

please stvlemo been trying 4 3 days now cant get it 2 work..please help…….wouldnt ask if i thought i could do it my self….waited 2 the last min 2 ask u no what i mean mate.

  209. stylemo says:

@dr : Did you follow the guide correctly? The seplugins folder should be on the root of the memory stick. and be sure you have pops.txt in the seplugins folder too. it should contain these: ms0:/seplugins/popsloader.prx

  210. mazin says:

hey stylemo, remember me, i Finlay got the new 4 GB memory, when i start the 1st step and began to run KXploit Permanent Patcher, it says this application doesn’t apply to this firmware, but my psp is version 1.50 so it should work, and when i used the 32 MB memory before i got the new memory, it worked. So does this mean i should start from step 2.

  212. thank u for ur kindness
so u mean we can use every apps that v. 1.5 do right??
anyway i already upgrade by ur instruction step by step
    thanks

  213. stylemo says:

@its_winnie@hotmail.com: no problem, place your 1.50 homebrews on GAME150 folder

@dr : the root means the first level of the drive. for example if you connect your PSP to your PC, the PSP would appear on a drive, let’s say, drive F:/, that is the root of the memory stick.

@mazin: start on step 1, but if you have patched it already then you can go on with step 2

  214. dr says:

u r the man thank u very much!!!

  215. mazin says:

    thanks bro.
i just want ur opinion and any body else and then i ll be out of your life for good. i upgraded to 3.52 M33-4 thanks to you. I’m trying to install a 300 custom theme, most of them work on 3.40 OE, do you think i should upgrade/downgrade to 3.40 OE or upgrade to 3.71 M33-4 and WHY?????????

  216. mazin says:

sorry but i missed something, if i did upgrade to 3.71 M33-4 and i didnt like it, can i go back to 3.52 M33-4

  217. cat cat says:

I have a 3.40 OE and followed step two and end up having the “game could not be started error”. Do I need to downgrade first? Thanks a lot!

  218. cat cat says:

Opps! I did it! yeah! :P

  219. cat cat says:

Oh nvm! i did it. Thanks for the super instructions!

  220. Chris says:

I’m having trouble installing the third step, upgrading it to M33-4. It’s just not installing, it gives me the error: “The game could not be started. (80020148)

  221. dijf says:

i’m having the same trouble as chris (see below)…problems with step 3…can you help me?
    thank you very much

  222. stylemo says:

@Chris and @dijf: Please try placing the M33Update4 folder inside the GAME folder instead of GAME150 folder. Your kernels might not be configured correctly. Thanks guys!

  223. that guy says:

I am having the same problem with step 3, the file is only recognized when in the “GAME” folder, but i am still getting the 80020148 error.

  224. that guy says:

i got it, go to recovery mode (turn on the psp and hold R) go to configure and change the homebrew kernel to 1.5, the exit and now the update will run

  225. dijf says:

thanks! it works now! amazing!!! merry x-mass

  226. nigeriaboy says:

  227. liver says:

when running the M33 creator..i got this message that reads “loading 1.50 firmware….file 1.50.pbp couldn’t be opened.”

    Please help us…

  229. stylemo says:

Did you place the 1.50.pbp file on the root of your memory stick? Please check the instructions carefully. :)

  230. ToNy says:

hey does 3.71m33 play all games like 3.52m33 my psp version is 3.52m33-4 and which is better between them and idf i go to 3.71m33 can i go back to 3.52m33

  231. stylemo says:

@ToNy: You can play more games on 3.71 M33. Yes you can go back to 3.52 M33 anytime you want.

  232. Melvin says:

From Stylemo: Did you place the 1.50.pbp file on the root of your memory stick? Please check the instructions carefully. :)

Yup, and I ran it with 1.50 and 3.40 OE-A. Any help please,,,

  233. Lanz says:

    I was follow the instruction
    got file 150.psp and 352.pbp and eboot.pbp
put the file into \psp\game\.. or psp\game150\
but nothing happen and my psp got turn off by it self
    what wrong with that

  234. ToNy says:

which id better 3.52m33-4 or 3.71m33 wat do u think

  235. liver says:

Hi stylemo, which is the root directory? Right now in my psp folder there is common folder, game folder, game 150 folder, game 310 folder, system folder and save data folder. In the game folder, there are two folders each with a EBOOT.pbp. And then, where should i locate the 1.50.pbp file?

  236. Lanz says:

    to liver and melvin
    i have new trick
i was create new directory on psp “PSP/GAME/RECOVERY” place file eboot creator here and 352.pbp and 150.bpb
and shut down and boot with with recovery system press R button and RUN RECOVERY by press X button
it work on my PSP … i hope work on your’s

  237. Psygonn says:

Is there any risk of your psp shutting off or going into standby while upgrading for power saving purposes(even if it is charged there may still be power saving settings, can they be a problem)?

  238. stylemo says:

No. The backlight just turns off. You can press the directional keys to bring the light back when the backlight turns off. Do not, I repeat, do not toggle the power button or bring it to standby mode.

  239. Melvin says:

    Lanz, I got it. Thanks a million…

  240. liver says:

Lanz, I tried creating the RECOVERY folder and place the M33 creator eboot file inside. But when i tried running it at recovery, it jus turn black and nothing happened.

  241. Hunnigan says:

Uh, what if If my PSP is already 3.52 M33-2, should I still follow the steps above?

  242. Melvin says:

Liver, I ran it with 3.40 OE-A. Maybe you have 1.50 or other firmware, try it on 3.40 OE-A.

  243. kellogs says:

when i try to run 3.52m33uodate it shows the gameboot then my psp turns off before the update even starts

  244. kellogs says:

    now it says incorrect psar

  245. liver says:

Lanz, I’m using 3.10 OE. Did i follow your instruction correctly? Jus open a recovery folder and then throw the M33 creator eboot file inside right?

  246. Hunnigan says:

Nevermind my question. I already upgraded my PSP to 3.71 M33-4. AWWESOME!!!

  247. Keitaro says:

I upgraded, and when I did, my PSP started truncating path names, so when I try to make ms0:/seplugins/ it turns into ms0:/seplugin/ any help?

  248. Lanz says:

For Liver, i have not tried on 3.10 yet coz my mine is 3.40
may be you should upgrade to 3.40 before 3.52 m33… like melvin said …

  249. Fraz says:

when i try and run the M33Update4, it goes to the psp screen, then goes black, and says [The game could not be started. (80020148)]
…what’s the deal with that, and how can I fix it?

  250. Fraz says:

actually, its good now, looked back through other posts, ThatGuy had it.

  251. elfy says:

i went to the recovery mode > configuration > Game Folder Homebrew > to check if it’s 3.03 and mine is 3.10!!
do i switch it back to 1.5??

i have error [the game could not be started. (80020148)] when i run Step 2

    ahh…help~~

  252. stylemo says:

@elfy: if you switch it back to 1.5, then you should use the GAME folder, otherwise GAME150.

  253. elfy says:

    yeah it works!
    thanks!

  254. halokilla77 says:

@stylemo…first off great site and thanks for sharing with us all your tutorials. I been away from the CFW scene since 3.30 OE-A (which is what I have now). One quick question in regards to upgrading to 3.52 M33-4, do I have to upgrade to 3.52 M33 first and then up to 3.52 M33-4 or upgrading from 3.30 OE-A straight to 3.52 M33-4 is okay?

And one last thing are these steps correct, im trying to go to 3.80 M33-5…

    3.30 OE-A > 3.52 M33-4 > 3.71 M33 > 3.71 M33-4 > 3.80 M33 > 3.80 M33-5

Sorry for the newbie ?’s, but I want to make sure…thank you in advance for your help.

  255. stylemo says:

@halokilla77: That’s absolutely the right path!

  256. shahab says:

Hey, i did everything u said but when i get to the last part it keep giving me the message “the game could not be started”????? what do i do

  257. Arcius says:

When I was running 3.52 M33UPDATE, my friend didnt know and turn the PSP off. Now I couldnt even turn it on, its just a blank, black screen. How can I recover my PSP, please help me.

  258. stylemo says:

@Arcius: You’re friend is an idiot. But you can still recover a bricked PSP using Pandora’s battery.

  259. Arcius says:

@stylemo: yeah, I was very angry and I made him pay for the extra battery.
Anyway, the first step of using Pandora’s battery is “Connect the PSP to the PC with the Memory Stick inside via the USB Connection”. But, I couldnt turn the PSP on, how can I connect it to my laptop?

  260. Arcius says:

oh, I got it, I suppose to use another PSP to unbrick mine, is that right?

  261. dr0bz says:

I’ve downgraded to 1.5, and also ran the KXploit tool, but whenever I try to use the M33 Creator, it works up till writing 3.52, at which point it will lag but eventually finish and say to press “x”, which I do.

When I go back to the explorer, I get an odd-staticy icon for the 3.52 update, and when I press it, it loads up the PSP screen, and resets, doing nothing.

Please tell me how I’ve possibly screwed up something so incredibly simple.

  262. stylemo says:

@Arcius: Yes, you need to borrow somebody’s homebrew enabled PSP – with 1.5 Kernel
@dr0bz: When I made the update I used a 1 Gig Memory Stick. Maybe you should reformat your memory stick and replace the M33 Creator files.

  263. rhythm07 says:

my psp is a 3.30 OE-A, i just wanna ask on the recovery mode…. is ” the game folder homebrew should be 1.50 kernel or 3.30 kernel when you copy the m33creator on the GAME150 folder?_?

  264. rhythm07 says:

omg… my psp won’t work,,, it won’t open… i was able to update it to 3.52 m33-4…. but something happen i was trying to update to 3.71….. what am i going to do… it just won’t open…~~ sigh~~

  265. stylemo says:

@rhythm07: you use pandora’s battery. I think you guys should be more extra careful next time. You should follow the exact instructions that I write.

  266. [...] PSP with installed custom firmware 3.52 M33-4 or higher. My PSP had 3.80 M33-5 custom [...]

  267. rhythm07 says:

thank you… but i was able to update it from 3.30 OE-A to 3.52 M33-4, but when i tried the 3.71 M33 it failed & when back 2 d xmb menu…. and then what i did is i closed my psp to go to the recovery menu but it won’t open nemore.. i think i should have tried the M33 3.71 update again when it failed d first…..

well thank you anyway…^_^ my psp is fine now…

  268. Ando says:

    Everything OK except Step 4:

“Turn off your PSP then turn it on again while pressing the R button. This will take you to the recovery menu. Go to Plugins and enable popsloader by pressing x. After enabling it, go to back and then exit.”

Did as you say and nothing happens hen switching on with the Shoulder R butto pressed.

    Any suggestions?
Is it going to operate ok without this step?

    thanx in advance!

As you mentioned ” From the STEP 3 folder, copy the seplugins folder to the root of your memory stick.” which is on the last sentences. Can you tell me exactly what you mean by root of the your MS? 289. white bre says:

thanks for a;; these thinks yeah but i have a problem. i have PSP the fat one. it has 3.93 firmware. i try to do step one but at soon as i try to run the Permanent Patcher it says ‘The game could not be started (8002014C). can you help me with this one plz. thanks a lot. if you need my email
    ‘mystic-boy@hotmail.co.uk’

  290. stylemo says:

@white bre: haven’t you read the requirements?

If you have a 1.5 or any custom OE/SE firmware, you are in luck. You can proceed to the next step, otherwise, you must downgrade your PSP first. I suggest you use Pandora’s battery for the downgrade.

The only way you could get your PSP running 3.52 M33 is to downgrade it first to 1.5

  291. stips says:

Very much appreciated, worked like a charm for me with one snag. The memory stick I put in my old fat psp came from a slim psp running on 3.90official firmware. Step 2 would not execute or even appear in my game section of the psp screen untill I performed a format of the memory stick using the psp. I then placed step 2 in the 150 directory where your instructions said to and it worked perfectly, thanks!

  298. white bre says:

is there a big risk that psp will brick after you downgrade?

  299. stylemo says:

@white bre: There’s always a risk of bricking your PSP if you don’t know what your dong with it. If you’re tinkering with the flash files from the PSP that might cause a brick. Installing custom firmwares or custom themes might cause brickage too. But if you have downgraded the PSP already, it won’t brick if you don’t do something that might modify the files from the PSP.

  300. Zaccus says:

Prahlad, do you have a umd in your psp?

and is your kernel set to 1.5?

  301. CD says:

I currently have 3.40 OE-A software. As I try to install the 3.52 M33 CREATOR my screen goes black as it is supposed to, but then a messaged is displayed saying, “The game could not be started. (80020148).” Am I doing something wrong here?

  302. troh says:

@CD Make sure you read the directions very well. None the less i think this’ where your problem is.

“copy the M33CREATOR folder to your “ms0:/PSP/GAME” (for 1.50 Firmwares) or “ms0:/PSP/GAME150″ (for SE/OE Firmwares)”

    Hope this helps.

  315. Dawid Fraczek says:

Will this turn your battery into a Pandora battery ? Or is a Pandora Battery not needed.

  316. Dawid Fraczek says:

Will 4gb memory sticks work with this ?

  317. stylemo says:

@Dawid Fraczek: Pandora battery is not needed on this guide. Just to be sure use a 1Gig Memory Stick or lower. Sometimes 4Gig mem sticks causes crashes.

  318. someone says:

I have a 1.5 psp firmware and I tried exactly what you said and I have a problem.I made it up to the part on STEP 2 where I execute the 3.52 M33 CREATOR, and you said it would go back to the XMB but it didn’t, it says update failed or something like that and there is no 3.52 M33UPDATE that I see.

For those of you getting just a black screen when trying to do STEP 2, and no memory stick access (light is not blinking) try this….

Put in a small (I used 1gig, rather than my 8gig stick) stick, format, then follow the instructions…

    It works that way.
