Transformers Movie: Totally Transformed Down

I know you guys have already heard about the upcoming Transformers movie next year. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, you can watch it on the official Transformers movie website or at YouTube. The Transformers movie trailer shows a rover that was launched to Mars in 2003 that sent transmissions back to earth showing lifeforms or more like robot-life forms in Mars. At first, I was excited but then I realized that my favorite robots as a child, the Transformers, were not from Mars. Once you’ve seen the trailer, you’ve probably never want to see it again as it sucks. Well, if you don’t believe me, read the comments about the Transformers trailer at YouTube.

So who is responsible for the movie? It’s no other than director Michael Bay. The man responsible for blowing up good movie titles like Pearl Harbor. I don’t really know anything about Michael Bay but what I know is that he is one of the most hated directors. Well, probably because some song in Team America has this funny lyrics about Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor movie. Here it goes. You can sing it if you know the Tune.

I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark,
When he made Pearl Harbor.
I miss you more then that movie missed the point,
And that’s an awful lot girl.
And now, now you’ve gone away,
And all I’m trying to say,
Is Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you

BumblebeeI was just hoping that Michael Bay wouldn’t again blow up the Transformers movie but I guess my hopes just deteriorated instantly. I just came across SERVE with CHIPS, a blog, showing photos of some of the characters in the Transformers movie. I was very disappointed when I saw what they did to Megatron. Why can’t they just design the Transformers just the way they should look in the original animation? Even Bumblebee is not a Beetle anymore but instead a Camaro. Even Optimus Prime doesn’t look like the original one. They have just over-designed the robots.

What is excessive is dangerous and that saying too, goes for the movie. They should have kept the robots’ original appearance. Why am I against this? It’s not that I can’t accept change but the truth is I love the Transformers and changing their looks in major ways makes me just wanna despise the upcoming movie. But I’m not totally gonna hate it right away. It’s still in the works and maybe, just maybe they will realize that the Transformers should look how they really look.

But then again, I just wish Spielberg should have just directed the movie.

Update: I made this post a year before the movie was released so before you leave a comment saying how stupid I am for this review (well this isn’t actually a review), I’d like you guys to know that I’ve seen the movie and my god, here’s my reaction to the movie.

@stylemo- Gnarly! I will see it on Saturday- I thought ‘4.0′ was a strange thign though- what is it? Die Hard 4.0 Litre?? hehehe (^_^) when I go to get my monthly supply of Dr Pepper- the store is next to the cinema- sadly, here in Oz, it is $2.50 a can! About $2.15 US. But I love it… And PopTarts for $18 a box (for 8)… Boo. (>_

@Doctor Rindel: I just saw Die Hard 4.0 last two days ago. It absolutely rocks man! Who would love the explosions and those flying cars? Bruce Willis still has it. I wish I could tell more about the movie but then I realized some of you might not have seen it yet.

@stylemo- Die Hard 4.0 will be gnarly! Not perfect is right- they killed Jazz… Not only that he was a damn Pontiac… Porsche and Pontiac might strat with P and have the same amount of letters- but that’s about bloody all! *runs off to attempt photographing a ‘roo*

@naruto- Hey sure it grossed 200 million- how many people of thought it was worth the it? It does not suggest that it was a hit- it suggests a shitload of people saw it- it was over hyped and I believe, misled people. The previews shown in Australia show Prime at an angle that leads you to believe he is in his G1 guise. ALSO- WTF is up with having Scorpionok!? WHY??? Lame. AND THEY KILLED JAZZ! I MEAN COME ON! In any case, I WILL NOT be seeing the sequel (allegedy there are two more scheduled… Vector Sigma help us…) or the third installment.

@mike reed-I am back to agreeing that they should have made it like the original- even if they had to compromise on some designs- and for Cybertron’s sake, they could have got some better damn voice actors!!! Bloody hell. No Soundwave, with his awesome vocorder voice, no bloody Wheeljack- THEY KILLED JAZZ for crying out loud! WHY! ARGH!

I realised I am wrong. I CAN’T deal with this. Grrr. I even had to buy the special 17 disc re-release of the original show to calm down (came in a kick ass metal tin and retro packaging like the figures)

@naruto: Transformers - Best Movie of the Summer? Don’t say that yet. The movie was not bad and was not perfect. I love the special effects. I mean who wouldn’t. It looked like every small bit and gear was moving when the robots were transforming but that’s not enough to make it the best movie this summer or for this year. There are still a lot of good movies out there like Die Hard 4.0, Harry Potter and The Simpsons. I’ll bet my ass for The Simpsons.

For all you nay-sayers out there…200 Million Gross
the first week says that it’s a hit with fans and
    nubies alike.

So quite your complaining. This was a heck of a better
flick than say…Spiderman 3..and maybe the best movie
    of the summer.

    This movie sucked
The robots looked NOTHING like their original forms. They werent even recognizeable. The story made ZERO sense. Michael Bay sucks ass.

The visual effects were fantastic- but the characters looked so fragile- with bits and bobs hanging off that could be dislodged with the most minimal graze or knock. Ah, I should stop picking on it! But it is sooooo hard!!! STARSCREAM ONLY HAD ONE LINE!?!?!?!? I’ll be quiet before I get banned (-_-;)

I’ll sure see what I can do- it’s winter here at the moment so the day has to be just right for them (lounging in the sun on still days when there’s not much wind- I guess the wind chill factor pisses them off). They’re not entirely approachable either (being wild and all) but, I sure will try! I’ve tried to offer them food in the past- but they’re not so friendly- more cautious than rude I’d guess- and stand up and take their ‘hyperventilating’ stance and get very confrontational. Until recently, I honestly never took notice of the claws (’razor sharp talons’ one might say) hanging off their arms- so now my offerings of food are done from a distance!

Two nights ago I went out to put my puppy on the lawn. Having just woken up, I opened the door, turned on the verandah light, steeped outside and gazed up- bleary eyed- at 2am- 3, 4 metres away from a startled, pissed off male Kangaroo with a youngster in tow, which quickly assumed the hyperventilating position. Which is kinda of scary when you see what these things can do. So gnarly- in a pants-browning fashion. The puppy wanted to have a go though *laughs*

I’d better stop. Getting off topic.

My appreciation of the TF movie is changing slowly. I was asked what I thought about it the other day and I whined and whinged, and then I thought- hang on, if kids who have never seen the TransFormers before, then their experience will be so different to my own- they’ll just see it for what it is. A movie about robots. Sure, I wanted a flat front Optimus, A beetle Bumblebee and A Walther P38 megatron, and everyone else like they were- but the movie wasn’t made for ME. As my hasty research has told me, TransFormers were a toy line and THEN a show. The show was to promote the toy line. So now, I look at the movie differently. It is just to promote the new toy line. And that, I CAN deal with. It’s not the end of the world.

    Far out I waffle on.

@Doctor Rindel: Yeah. The special effects team really made one hell of a good job there. Hey can you send me some close up photos of those Kangaroos? I have never seen a real live Kangaroo in my life.
