Transformers Movie: Totally Transformed Down

I know you guys have already heard about the upcoming Transformers movie next year. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, you can watch it on the official Transformers movie website or at YouTube. The Transformers movie trailer shows a rover that was launched to Mars in 2003 that sent transmissions back to earth showing lifeforms or more like robot-life forms in Mars. At first, I was excited but then I realized that my favorite robots as a child, the Transformers, were not from Mars. Once you’ve seen the trailer, you’ve probably never want to see it again as it sucks. Well, if you don’t believe me, read the comments about the Transformers trailer at YouTube.

So who is responsible for the movie? It’s no other than director Michael Bay. The man responsible for blowing up good movie titles like Pearl Harbor. I don’t really know anything about Michael Bay but what I know is that he is one of the most hated directors. Well, probably because some song in Team America has this funny lyrics about Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor movie. Here it goes. You can sing it if you know the Tune.

I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark,
When he made Pearl Harbor.
I miss you more then that movie missed the point,
And that’s an awful lot girl.
And now, now you’ve gone away,
And all I’m trying to say,
Is Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you

BumblebeeI was just hoping that Michael Bay wouldn’t again blow up the Transformers movie but I guess my hopes just deteriorated instantly. I just came across SERVE with CHIPS, a blog, showing photos of some of the characters in the Transformers movie. I was very disappointed when I saw what they did to Megatron. Why can’t they just design the Transformers just the way they should look in the original animation? Even Bumblebee is not a Beetle anymore but instead a Camaro. Even Optimus Prime doesn’t look like the original one. They have just over-designed the robots.

What is excessive is dangerous and that saying too, goes for the movie. They should have kept the robots’ original appearance. Why am I against this? It’s not that I can’t accept change but the truth is I love the Transformers and changing their looks in major ways makes me just wanna despise the upcoming movie. But I’m not totally gonna hate it right away. It’s still in the works and maybe, just maybe they will realize that the Transformers should look how they really look.

But then again, I just wish Spielberg should have just directed the movie.

Update: I made this post a year before the movie was released so before you leave a comment saying how stupid I am for this review (well this isn’t actually a review), I’d like you guys to know that I’ve seen the movie and my god, here’s my reaction to the movie.

I saw the new TF movie last night- and I agree with everyone who didn’t like it- they raped our childhood dreams… I appreciated the special effects and the erm… ’story’ but the Transformers’ characters themselves I couldn’t accpet… I know we all had expectations from this movie- and we were let down. Big time. I bet even the those behind the making of the movie had clashing opinions on making this movie- they could have modernised the transformers certainy- but there was no need to change what they looked like so dramatically… If ANYTHING they should have used their Alternators/Binaltech forms! At least they seem like a realistic segue from the 80’s to modern day… Anyway, I am rambling and sounding far nerdier than I actually am…

In summation, I have nothing positive to say about it EXCEPT for my fellow Aussie on the the screen Rachael Taylor!!!

    Dr Rindel,

Australia (no, not chasing kangaroos- although I have 5 lounging in my yard right now…)

Optimistic is a studio PLANT! Here to tell us how it was neccessary to turn a great idea in shit so Bay could feed his massive fucking ego.

It’s great to see the same assholes who passioantely defend shit like The Island and Bay’s other shitbombs, then turn around and talk about “realism.”
Hey optimistic, listen you dumbass, NOTHING Bay has done in his life has been realistic. Did you think Wolverine really had claws in his arms? Or that Magneto NEEDED a bucket on his head? No, theese things were done in order to remain true to the source material. And Bay’s redesigned robots look like they can barely stand. The orginials looked great. So Optmisitc, get some glasses or STFU! Tear your lips away from Michale Bay’s ass long enough to realize you are dead-wrong, he’s fucked this up, and he should have stayed with the original concept as is. You’re a plant. If Bay had done as the trufans wanted you’d be in here cheering how the ‘86 designs were so cool, and Bay was so brave for sticking to what worked.

Michael Bay must be handing out the swag like so much government cheese to be getting these plants to be defending what we can all see is going to be a shitty movie.

Oh, and before you pull out the old, “If uou don’t like it then don’t see it,” Don’t worry, I won’t be. And just as you have the right to pimp a piece-of-shit flick you haven’t seen, I have the right to trash it. Especially when the director has yet to make a movie that’s even watchable.

I wrote this post a year ago and I saw the new trailer last week. Yeah, I agree with you about that the Transformers have been changeing designs lately. There was also Beast Wars which I didn’t like. Having seen the latest trailer, I think I’ll give the movie a peek. It might be worth seeing at all.

Any real Transformers fan is aware that the Transformers franchise has reinvented itself many times in the past 25 years. Why be upset that Megatron isn’t a gun? Megatron has been (a few) tanks, a dinosaur, a dragon, a race car, a spaceship, and probably some other things. Prime also has been many other things than a flat-nosed semi. So why get upset that the franchise is being reinvented/reimagined again?

The new designs look great. They actually look like they could WORK. Like that other guy said, what works as a toy, and in a cartoon, may just look bad in live-action, big budget movie. I mean you can’t have the front of a car split into two big smooth blocks to make legs, and then the feet are two more blocks that swivel on simple pegs, etc. The early toys and their hand-drawn renditions could get away with being simple, defying mechanics and engineering. I mean I love the toys, but you don’t want the robots on screen, to look like simple toys!

@anonymous - Thanks. I get your point but what I wrote is what I feel so there’s nothing you can do about it. I saw the Transformer trailers and it looks good but I won’t be watching it without my free ticket though.

All of you hate reviewers are idiots. So freakin what the transformers arent 100% authentic to the original cartoon. First of all do you even remember what the transformers really look like. they were nothing but big ass blocks with limited mobility. Only because of the magic of 2d animation were they able to get away with the movements they were doing in the cartoon. AND THE TRANSFERMATIONS WERE CHEATED TO SHIT!. The fact that the toys were stiff as hell proves that they could never move like that in real life with that blocky shape.

AND the transformers designs have changed numerous of times. all of the other catroons the 2d and 3d ones had different designs. The movie is just making thier own look too, which looks preaty damn cool. and they designed there bodies for optimum mobility. they can run, jump, achieve acrobatic attacks.

Think people, its a realistic movie. some things just wont look right once you make it realistic. some changes has to be made.

quality pictures…why not go for all it can be.

I give my thumbs up to michael bay. and stop mentioning pearl harbor. He made some other movies after that, that were preaty good.

    Bad boys II

    The Island

    and before that!!

    Armageddon

    The Rock

    Bad boys

Get off his back wether pearl harbor was good or not not everybodies perfect all the time. sometimes you hit, some times you miss. But if you hit more than you miss then your misses dont matter.

transformer is going to be hot i dont car what anybody says.

Thanks Darth_McNasty. I won’t be making my own movie. Instead, I’ll just watch the transformers cartoons. Maybe I’ll go watch the movie too when someone gives me a free ticket because I’m not gonna be wasting my money on that movie.

Aint nuthin wrong with Gundams. Most of the characters, from what I’ve seen, are simply a more modern-day but more realistic design. I also want Megz to be a gun or something along those lines…but think about it. Things that look good drawn…do not look good in reality. (Hence Wolverine not having a really gay costume) Anyway it worked for me and I was ok. I’m excited about the upcoming movie. Maybe I’m just easy to please. If you want them to look like the toys of your childhood..make your own movie. Plain and simple
